‘See y’all in court!’ Harmeet Dhillon sues Virginia for not providing voter data

The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced on Friday that it is suing the state of Virginia over voter data.

Virginia is the latest state to face the wrath of the DOJ for not handing over voter registration information. Assistant Attorney General to the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division, Harmeet Dhillon, shared the lawsuit to X, commenting that the department “means business” when it comes to their requests.

The complaint lists Susan Beals “in her Official Capacity as Commissioner of the Virginia Department of Elections” as the defendant.

The document aims to “declare that Defendant’s refusal to provide the election records upon a demand by the Attorney General or her representative violates Title III of the Civil Rights Act” and to “order Commissioner Beals to provide to the Attorney General or her representative the current electronic copy of Virginia’s computerized statewide voter registration list, with all fields, including each registrant’s full name, date of birth, residential address, and either their state driver’s license number, the last four digits of their Social Security number, or HAVA unique identifier” filled out.

“The DOJ has sued 14 other states for not complying with its request to produce documents that tabulate their respective statewide voter registration lists. In September, the department filed lawsuits against California, New York, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Maine and Oregon. The DOJ then sued Delaware, Maryland, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington in December,” The Hill reported.
