A missed mark for the homeless and a snub of those speaking out against violent crime ahead of the World Cup coincided with at least one admission from Seattle’s socialist mayor.
“… yes, we are failing.”

Since being sworn in, Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson (D) has continued to peddle propaganda, taking stances against law enforcement and suggesting the tax revenue of the city’s highest earners was of no consequence. Rather than align with those marching against increased gun violence, sex trafficking, and wanton drug use, she teased the first 50 shelters erected for the homeless — with no demands for abstinence — well short of the targeted 1,000.
“The process of recovery is really complicated and difficult, and so, we’re not demanding that people be abstinent when they enter this village,” Wilson said Sunday from the site in Interbay where single-occupant tiny homes were arranged with shared restroom facilities.
Expecting to have 75 by the end of June and up to 300 added throughout the summer, the mayor asked and answered, “Is it a failure not to have created 500 units by now? What I wanna say is, as long as there are thousands of people sleeping unsheltered on our streets, yes, we are failing.”
Meanwhile, as players and fans converged on the city ahead of the first hosted FIFA World Cup match on Monday between Belgium and Egypt, Wilson was notably absent from a Saturday march that followed the city’s removal of barriers locals had put in place to safeguard the community from violence.
“I think it’s unfortunate that she’s not able to be here, but I think the message needs to be to her office that we’re ready to see a concrete action plan,” said one of those marching amid frequent gunfire in the community that is allegedly directly related to sex trafficking.

City Councilmember Bob Kettle (D) was among those marching who spoke at the protest, acknowledging the crime was “not right, and not acceptable.”
Speaking with KOMO, which identified a police station mere blocks away, the official addressed the need to increase staffing for the Seattle Police Department. “We have to reach our goal, 1,258 officers by the end of the year, we need to keep this momentum — but you know why? Because this allows it to bring the detectives out of the patrol, letting them do the work that’s needed to really take care of these networks, really tackle these problems.”
The outlet also reported a statement received from Wilson’s office ahead of the march that read, “Every neighborhood should be a place where people feel safe, supported, and able to go about their daily lives without fear. We are actively working with Aurora-area residents, Seattle Police, and the Seattle Department of Transportation to address community concerns. SPD continues to conduct emphasis patrols and re-task members of the Gun Violence Reduction Unit to focus on the area, and in about a week, SDOT will have completed its analysis of roads in the area for future safety improvements. The Deputy Mayor, public safety staff, and our community liaisons have met with area residents, and we will continue to find ways to support neighbors.”
Thus far, the ways being implemented have drawn little more than criticism.
This isn’t a human rights solution; it’s a temporary PR fix for World Cup optics. Hiding addiction behind $16k walls is just cosmetic masking of a systemic infrastructure failure 🤡

Seattle’s World Cup plan:
Don’t stop the drug use.
Don’t restore public order.
Don’t fix the streets.
Just put the chaos in a $16,000 decorative box and hope the tourists don’t ask questions.— The Double Standard Desk (@DSDdesk) June 8, 2026
So just to be clear…
Seattle is going to concentrate addicts, criminals, drug dealers, untreated mental illness, into one taxpayer-funded zone…
…what could possibly go wrong?
