‘Shut up, dude’: Sports reporter slams NBA star’s ‘angry black man’ victimhood comments

A NBA player’s victimhood status over alleged treatment as “an angry black man” sent one sports reporter over the edge: “We’re sick of you …”

Over the weekend, the Golden State Warriors fell behind in their NBA playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves after a close game three loss. However, it was after Minnesota defeated Golden State 117-93 in the second game that the Warriors’ power forward Draymond Green earned the ire of ESPN reporter Tim McMahon by claiming there was a racially-charged “agenda” at play.

“Oh, God … You know what? Go away, Draymond. Shut up, dude. Do not play victim here,” said the reporter on ESPN’ “The Hoop Collective” as host Brian Windhorst relayed the latest remarks. “Don’t play the victim here. Stop doing flagrant stuff. We’re sick of it. We’re sick of you doing stupid, flagrant crap on a regular basis. It’s not an agenda, Draymond. You get break after break after break after break, and you keep on pushing the line.”

Speaking from the locker room after the game two loss, where he’d faced his fifth technical foul of the playoffs, Green lamented, “I’m not an angry black man. I am a very successful, educated black man with a great family, and I am great at basketball and great at what I do. The agenda to try to keep making me look like an angry black man is crazy. I’m sick of it. It’s ridiculous.”

Pushing back on the player’s claim that he was being misrepresented, McMahon referenced a number of previous antics from Green that had crossed a line that included punching his own teammate Jordan Poole during practice in 2022, putting Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert in a hold during the 2023-2024 season, and physically lashing out at Phoenix Suns center Jusuf Nurkic.

“It was not an agenda to make you look angry when you punched your teammate in the face. It was not an agenda to make you look angry when you grabbed Rudy Gobert and put him in a sleeper hold. It was not an agenda to make you look angry when you punched or smacked, or whatever the hell you want to call it, Jusuf Nurkic upside the head,” said the reporter.

Following the lament from Green, he went on to get fouled out of the third game against Minnesota with only 4:38 seconds left, bringing his total number to six heading into Monday night’s game four — one away from facing a suspension.

“Draymond is full of crap,” asserted McMahon as social media added their own say on the player and his record of aggressive behavior.

“Bro. You’re the angriest person in the NBA for a decade,” came one reaction as another suggested Green’s comments were akin to saying, “I don’t want to be accountable for my actions so I’m gonna drop this race card here real quick and bounce.”
