A mother of two in South Carolina is making headlines for grabbing a massive alligator that she says is going to become a rug.
Just five months after giving birth to her second child, and right before her maternity leave was scheduled to end, Brittany Livingston killed a 12-foot alligator. It took no time at all for people to notice, with some even posting videos to social media.

Even a quick trip to McDonald’s had employees leaving the store to take a peek at the Livingston’s once-in-a-lifetime trophy kill.
“We had a lot of eyes on us,” the Livingstons said, according to WCSC. “People were waving, giving thumbs up… even the workers at McDonald’s came outside to see it.”
“Livingston had been applying for a South Carolina alligator hunting tag for five years through the state’s alligator hunting season lottery system,” the outlet reported. “This year, her name was finally drawn in Unit 4, which covers the Pee Dee.”
“You gain preference points each year,” the mother explained. “This year I finally had enough.”
And even recovering from childbirth wasn’t going to stop her from getting her gator, and she scored big.
South Carolina’s former alligator program coordinator, Jay Butfiloski, explained that the goal of the program isn’t just to kill alligators, but to protect the local ecology.
“The goal is not to eliminate alligators. It’s to allow some harvest, which helps manage the population and reduce nuisance issues,” he said.
“Not something most people do on maternity leave,” Livingston said, after she earned herself the nickname ‘Gator Girl’ with her massive catch. “But yeah.”
“The family named their 12-foot, 597 lb. gator ‘Chomp Norris.’ They plan to make a full-body rug out of it, and fill their freezer with gator sausage and snack sticks,” WCSC wrote.
“We wouldn’t hunt anything if we weren’t going to eat it,” Brittany’s husband, Matt Livingston, clarified. “We respect the wildlife just as much, and we want it to still be here for our kids.”
“I think it tastes like chicken,” Brittany laughed.
The Livingstons took their children on the boat with them the night they caught “Chomp Norris,” and it’s an experience they likely won’t forget any time soon.
“I’m sure they’ll never forget it. I can’t imagine them going to school and telling their friends they helped catch a dinosaur,” the husband said.
