Talk about timely, new poll has Biden approval rising sharply ahead of midterms

Talk about timely, a new poll from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research has President Biden’s approval rating rising sharply as voters are set to begin casting votes in the midterm elections.

Strangely, while a president’s party is commonly seen as rising and falling on the ratings of its leader, the AP cited “a rebound in support from Democrats just two months before the November midterm elections” as the biggest factor in Biden’s rating improving from a low of 36% in July to 45% in August.

“During a few bleak summer months when gasoline prices peaked and lawmakers appeared deadlocked, the Democrats faced the possibility of blowout losses against Republicans,” the AP reported. “Their outlook appears better after notching a string of legislative successes that left more Americans ready to judge the Democratic president on his preferred terms: ‘Don’t compare me to the Almighty. Compare me to the alternative.'”

Chief among the “legislative successes” is the Democrats’ massive climate spending bill deceptively dubbed the Inflation Reduction Act — in reality, experts have noted that the bill does little to address rising prices.

It’s not until the fourth paragraph that the news agency gets around to pointing out that Biden’s approval rating remains underwater, with 53% of U.S. adults disapproving of him.

The economy is noted to “be a weakness for Biden,” as numbers out this week show that there has not been any real reprieve from 40-year high budget-crushing inflation, despite a marked drop in gas prices.

The AP-NORC poll also found a similar jump in the number of Americans who believe the country is headed in the right direction, rising from 17 percent in July to 27 percent.

In other election news, Georgia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams said Wednesday during an appearance on “The View” that she supports abortions up “until the time of birth,” Fox News reported.

Abrams said that abortion is “a decision that should be made between a woman and her doctor, that viability is the metric, and that if a woman’s health or life is in danger, then viability extends until the time of birth.”

“I believe that abortion is a medical decision, not a political decision,” she said. “And arbitrary, politically defined timelines are deeply problematic because they ignore the reality of medical and physiological issues. For example, a six-week ban tells women they have to make reproductive choices before they know they’re pregnant. And that arbitrariness extends into these artificial timelines.”
