The ongoing feud between President Donald Trump and California Gov. Gavin Newsom over the riots in Los Angeles took several interesting turns on Tuesday.
First, the governor asked a federal judge for an immediate temporary restraining order blocking the president and his administration from deploying Marines to Los Angeles. That request was denied.

U.S. District Judge Charles Breyer instead granted the Trump administration time to officially respond to the governor’s complaint.
A couple of hours later, Newsom gave a tearful primetime address in which he accused the president of perpetrating a “brazen abuse of power.”

“This brazen abuse of power by a sitting president inflamed a combustible situation, putting our people, our officers, and even our National Guard at risk,” he said, complaining about the president’s deployment of military forces to Los Angeles.
“Trump and his loyalists… they thrive on division because it allows them to take more power and exert even more control. And by the way, Trump, he’s not opposed to lawlessness and violence as long as it serves him. What more evidence do we need than January 6th?” he added.
Also on Tuesday, the president was asked when the last time was he’d spoken directly with the California governor.
“Mmm, a day ago,” Trump said. “Called him up to tell him, got to do a better job. He’s doing a bad job, causing a lot of death and potential death. If we didn’t send out the National Guard, Los Angeles would be burning right now.”

The remarks prompted a clapback from Newsom, who took to Twitter/X to accuse Trump of being a liar.
“There was no call. Not even a voicemail,” he tweeted. “Americans should be alarmed that a President deploying Marines onto our streets doesn’t even know who he’s talking to.”
Trump responded shortly thereafter by calling into Fox News’ “America Reports” to offer up receipts disproving Newsom’s allegation.
“Well, President Trump contacted me from Air Force One on his way to Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he’ll be in just a little while,” Fox News’ John Roberts reported. “He said the first call to Gavin Newsom was not picked up.”
“The second call Gavin picked up, we spoke for 16 minutes. I told him to essentially, quote, and this is quoting the president, ‘Get his ass in gear and stop the riots, which were out of control more than anything else. This shows what a liar he is, said I never called,'” he added.
“President Trump just contacted me from Air Force 1 to say this:

Newsom fired back by noting that the timestamp on the call proves that it was made on Saturday, not “a day ago.”
“If only he had shown the right ones [receipts],” he mockingly tweeted. “Trump doesn’t even know what day it is.”

The feud continues to escalate, as do the riots in Los Angeles that have since spread to other Democratic cities such as New York City, Seattle, Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, and Phoenix.
This, in turn, has prompted even more military deployments:
BREAKING: ICE is preparing to deploy tactical units to five cities run by Democratic leaders, according to two sources familiar with the planning of future ICE operations.
