‘They’re trying to kill him’: Congressman says DOJ purposely tried to bury threats on Trump’s life

Asserting much more than alleged election interference, a Florida congressman slammed the Biden-Harris administration for trying to “bury” Iranian threats to former President Donald Trump.

Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, it appeared the Islamist regime picked their favorite for the 2024 election and was pulling out all the stops to get their desired outcome. Such was the conclusion of Florida Rep. Michael Waltz (R) as he accused the White House of covering up “ongoing” threats to the GOP leader.

“You have multiple assassination plots from the Iranians,” he told host Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures” on Fox News. “This Pakistani national was recruiting females as spotters. He had recruited hit men and had made a down payment. He was even recruiting protesters as a distraction.”

“Yet, the Department of Justice, when they unveiled the indictment, didn’t even name Trump as the target. They tried to soft-pedal it and just say, oh, it was a politician. So, this wasn’t an isolated incident in Butler, PA,” the congressman asserted, drawing the July 13 assassination attempt into the mix of a broader plot against the Republican presidential nominee.

Tuesday, an indictment from a New York court was unsealed that showed Asif Merchant, a 46-year-old Pakistani national, was accused of a “murder for hire” plot with Trump as a believed target. A statement from FBI Director Christopher Wray referred to it as “straight out of the Iranian playbook” as he noted, “A foreign-directed plot to kill a public official, or any U.S. citizen, is a threat to our national security and will be met with the full might and resources of the FBI.”

Waltz remained unconvinced as he charged, “These plots from Iran are ongoing. And when [President Joe] Biden says nothing, [Vice President Kamala] Harris says nothing, the DOJ tries to bury it, what message does Iran get? They get that we can keep trying to take Trump out and have no consequences.”

“They tried to hack his campaign or did hack his campaign this week. They’re trying to kill him. And we know from the intelligence community Iran doesn’t want Trump back,” he added.

The reported hack was said to have included the transmission of a 271-page document to corporate media outlets believed to be vetting material used in selecting Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance as Trump’s running mate. A statement from Trump campaign Communications Director Steven Cheung read, “These documents were obtained illegally from foreign sources hostile to the United States, intended to interfere with the 2024 election and sow chaos throughout our Democratic process.”

“The Iranians know that President Trump will stop their reign of terror just like he did in his first four years in the White House,” added Cheung.

That terror, as Waltz pointed out, included recently hospitalizing six soldiers who were admitted in critical condition after an attack.

“Why?” the congressman asked rhetorically of Iran’s opposition to another Trump administration. “He held them accountable. And you overlay that with, how has Biden and Harris treated Iran? Well, Iran knows that they’re sympathizers.”

A statement from the Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations to the New York Post denied any involvement in efforts to impact the outcome of the U.S. presidential election, “Iran does not engage in any objective or activities intended to influence the U.S. election.”

Meanwhile, as Bartiromo pointed out, little has been publicly revealed about the would-be assassin of Trump from weeks earlier standing in stark contrast to details made known about a terror threat made to Taylor Swift concerts.
