The nominations for the 95th edition of the Academy Awards are officially out and already there are the usual tiresome cries of racism and sexism from a director who reacted in an extremely negative manner over the snub of herself and her movie.
Despite glowing reviews from critics and a starring role by “The View’ co-host Whoopi Goldberg, the film “Till” about murdered black teenager Emmett Till was shut out, receiving no nominations in any category, an insulting omission that just had to have racist motivations.
At least that’s the opinion of director Chinonye Chukwu who immediately threw down the race card after the news broke that her picture about one of the “woke” left’s greatest martyr figures would be snubbed while films such as “Top Gun: Maverick” would score multiple nominations.
“We live in a world and work in industries that are so aggressively committed to upholding whiteness and perpetuating an unabashed misogyny towards black women,” Chukwu wailed on Instagram.
“And yet. I am forever in gratitude for the greatest lesson of my life — regardless of any challenges or obstacles, I will always have the power to cultivate my own joy, and it is this joy that will continue to be one of my greatest forms of resistance,” she wrote.

The film tells the story of Mamie Till, the mother of the murdered 14-year-old, and her efforts to get justice after the Chicago teen was brutally tortured and murdered on a 1955 trip to pre-civil rights-era Mississippi by a gang of racist criminals after he allegedly offended a white woman, in an incident so horrific that it resonates to this day. It has garnered gushing reviews as well as a 98% Fresh Rotten Tomatoes rating but for some reason, failed to impress Academy members.

While the critics were blown away, moviegoers weren’t as “Till” has been underwhelming at the box office, perhaps a sign of diminishing returns in a marketplace that is completely oversaturated with “woke” racially-charged fare.
Chukwu’s airing of her grievances comes despite the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences bending over backward to appease those who accused the body and its annual ceremony of the beautiful people celebrating their contributions to culture in a politically-charged orgy of self-congratulation of lacking diversity, leading to the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite, leading to incentives to promote diversity and inclusion in the nominations.
In 2020, the Academy rolled out a series of new inclusion requirements to “encourage equitable representation on and off screen,” mandatory quotas which will go into effect for the 2024 awards.
Twitter users weighed in on Chukwu’s assertion that whiteness was to blame for her exclusion from this year’s nominees.
My film wasn’t very good, but the reason I didn’t win is because I’m a black woman

Till” director Chinonye Chukwu accused the Oscars as well as the entertainment industry of being “aggressively committed to upholding whiteness” after she failed to earn a “Best Director” nomination.
As usual…when you feel bad, or fail…call it “Racism.”

Interesting that Chinonye Chukwu is so utterly convinced of her own talents that TILL not getting Oscar nominations MUST be due to Academy bigotry.
More likely because the film is boring. A hugely important story, sure, & well-acted, but it’s flat & feels endless. #TillMovie

Chinonye Chukwu is mad because she wasn’t nominated for directing an ADOS historical piece of American history. I think she wasn’t nominated because it wasn’t her story to be involved with. We aren’t the same. Angela Bassett was nominated how is that Black women hate?

Chinonye Chukwu blames ‘whiteness’ for her movie not getting nominated for an #Oscar
atleast she exposed her ignorance and racism before anyone will know her name. We never have to watch any of her movies.
Please keep doing this so we know which movies not to watch.
