Tim Allen finishes 13-month Bible journey, talks about what happened to him

After a reading “journey” exceeding a year, actor and comedian Tim Allen shared his impressions of the Bible, including plans moving forward.

Known for his roles as Tim Taylor on “Home Improvement,” Buzz Lightyear in “Toy Story,” and Santa Claus in “The Santa Clause,” the star of film and television also hasn’t been shy about sharing his perspective on the world and politics. Early in February, after numerous updates in the preceding months, a “humbled” Allen announced after completing a read through the Bible, “I will begin it again.”

In a post shared on X, the star of ABC’s “Shifting Gears” detailed, “Finished the entire Bible it’s been a 13 month word by word page by page no skimming journey. Humbled, enlightened and amazed at what I read and what I learned. I will rest and meditate on so much. I will begin it again.”

Throughout the reading, Allen had sporadically shared his progress toward completing the Old Testament and then the New Testament. He also addressed the profound impact witnessing those living the Christian faith had on him.

In September 2025, the actor reacted to widow Erika Kirk’s testimony on stage at the memorial for her assassinated husband, Charlie Kirk, where she expressed her forgiveness of “that young man” who was responsible.

“When Erika Kirk spoke the words on the man who killed her husband: ‘That man… that young man… I forgive him.’ That moment deeply affected me,” Allen posted to social media. “I have struggled for over 60 years to forgive the man who killed my Dad. I will say those words now as I type: ‘I forgive the man who killed my father. Peace be with you all.”

Over the years, the star who played Mike Baxter on “Last Man Standing” has repeatedly commented on the challenges he’s faced in coming to terms with God as the creator, at times referring to him as “The Builder” or the “emanator,” including in a 2011 interview with ABC News’ then-co-anchor of “20/20” Elizabeth Vargas where he described himself as “constantly a cynic” even while remaining a churchgoer.

Nearly 15 years later, during a February 2025 interview with Mike Rowe, Allen reflected on the impact the death of his father, Gerald Dick, had had on his relationship with God. The actor recalled how the November 1964 day Dick had been killed in a car accident by a drunk driver, he had headed home “knowing something terrible had happened” to his family while he wasn’t with them.

As a result, Allen attempted to bargain with God to ensure their safety, only to learn later about the car accident that took his father’s life. Those telling him his father was in a better place found him responding, “‘Then why are we in this sh*thole? Why don’t we just start there?’ And it never got answered.”

The profound journey that the celebrity has taken comes at a time when “The Bible in a Year” podcast with Father Mike Schmitz has dominated podcast charts along with Ascension’s follow-up series “The Catechism in a Year” and Father Mark-Mary Ames “The Rosary in a Year.” Additionally, Bible sales surged in 2025 by at least 12% following a spike in the year prior of 22%, with some 707 million copies sold in 2025.

Meanwhile, Allen’s own testimony reached more than 3.4 million views on social media as users sounded off with their prayerful support.
