The latest in performative politics against President Donald Trump found seven Republicans siding with Democrats on the conflict in the Middle East.
Tuesday on Capitol Hill, congressional members of the GOP, including some outgoing lawmakers, once again demonstrated how slim a “majority” the president has been operating with since his second administration began. Including Reps. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Nancy Mace of South Carolina, seven Republicans joined Massachusetts Rep. Seth Moulton’s (D) resolution to withdraw U.S. Armed Forces from engaging with Iran.
In a final vote of 220-204, where eight Republicans were also marked as not voting, a third resolution destined to be dead on arrival advanced in Congress, calling to “remove United States Armed Forces from hostilities against the Islamic Republic of Iran, other than those elements of the Armed Forces that may be necessary to defend the United States or an ally or partner of the United States from imminent attack provided that the President complies fully with the requirements of section 5(b) the War Powers Resolution … with respect to any such use of the Armed Forces, unless explicitly authorized by a declaration of war or a specific congressional authorization for use of military force against Iran.”
Along with Mace and Massie, the remaining Republicans who sided with the Democrats included: Tom Barrett of Michigan, Warren Davidson of Ohio, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Mariannette Miller-Meeks of Iowa and Zachary Nunn of Iowa.
Speaking with Fox News Digital on the morning of the vote, Barrett expressed, “I’ve been consistent on that since the war powers provision expired after 60 days of engagement.”
While pushing the legislation, Moulton spoke to the commander-in-chief’s initial assurance that the conflict would be resolved in a matter of weeks, saying, “Remember when Donald Trump said that this war would last just a few weeks?”
Likewise, House Foreign Affairs Committee ranking member Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-NY) issued a statement advancing talking points: “We are nearly 200 days into this illegal and unauthorized war, and what do the American people have to show for it? Soaring gas prices, rising mortgage rates and inflation, tens of billions of dollars in taxpayer dollars wasted, 19 U.S. service members killed and more than 750 wounded.”
“Despite all the costs, none of the administration’s stated objectives with Iran have been achieved,” he claimed. “Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile program remains intact, and it continues to demonstrate leverage over the Strait of Hormuz, which was open before Trump started this war.”

Standing in support of the president, Florida Rep. Brian Mast (R) argued Trump is against “forever wars, and that is what he is ending,” as he reminded them of Iran: “They are a continuous ongoing threat to the United States. Enough is enough.”
Similarly, Indiana Rep. Marlin Stutzman (R) told Fox News Digital, “The president has done a good job managing all this.”
“We need to stand with the president right now and with the Iranian people,” he went on. “And the president’s done what he promised the American people, that he wasn’t going to let them have a nuclear weapon.”
