Trash-talking Dem says he was punched in the face by ‘racist’ Trump supporter at Sundance Film Festival

Assault of a Democrat congressman attending a film festival party sounded a tad “Jussie” while two-tiered justice appeared once more with calls for the suspect to be “aggressively prosecuted.”

Last week in Park City, Utah, the annual Sundance Film Festival kicked off and, for unknown reasons, Florida Rep. Maxwell Frost (D) was present, attending a talent agency’s party. It was there that the leftist lawmaker claimed to have been the victim of an assault by a man who allegedly told him, “Trump was going to deport me before he punched me in the face.”

According to The Associated Press, 28-year-old Christian Joel Young had been arrested and was being held at the Summit County Jail for alleged aggravated burglary, assaulting an elected official and assault.

It was Frost who reinforced claims of a racially-motivated attack as he shared a report from Variety on the incident that took place at CAA talent agency’s party at the High West Saloon, stating on X, “Last night, I was assaulted by a man at Sundance Festival who told me that Trump was going to deport me before he punched me in the face. He was heard screaming racist remarks as he drunkenly ran off. The individual was arrested and I am okay. Thank you to the venue security and Park City PD for assistance on this incident.”

The Variety report shared an account from a source at the party that “said the man, who is caucasian, was involved in a racially charged incident that took place at the eatery’s restroom. He apparently shocked other people in the bathroom by talking about how proud he was to be ‘white.’ He then allegedly punched a person of color in the face after he left the facilities. Security detained the man, who has not been identified, and police later took him into custody.”

A statement from Sundance Film Festival expressed, “The safety and security of our festival attendees is always our chief concern, and our thoughts are with Congressman Frost and his continued well-being. We encourage anyone with additional information on this matter to contact the Park City Police Department.”

The AP further detailed that County Judge Richard Mrazik deemed Young “a substantial danger to any other individual or to the community, or is likely to flee the jurisdiction of the court if released on bail,” and ordered him held without bail.

Reacting to reports of the alleged assault on Frost, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) expressed that he was “horrified” and”appalled that this terrifying assault took place. The perpetrator must be aggressively prosecuted. Hate and political violence has no place in our country, and the entire House Democratic Caucus family stands with Maxwell.”

Notably, there was no such public condemnation of the anti-ICE agitators who had stormed the Sunday service of Cities Church in Minnesota only days earlier that had resulted in at least three arrests. Of course, unlike in Utah, where the judge had ordered the suspect held without bail, or in the case of many J6 defendants who had experienced years of pretrial detention, all three agitators in Minnesota had been ordered released.

In his own statement on the incident in Park City, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox (R) said, “Political or racially charged violence of any kind is unacceptable in Utah. I’m grateful to local law enforcement for swiftly apprehending the assailant and pursuing justice for Rep. Maxwell Frost.”

The governor went on to comment on mass deportation efforts as he said, “The temperature in our country is high, with scenes of violence playing out in places like Minneapolis. We will not let that happen here. Federal efforts to enforce immigration law are welcome and necessary, and yet we must not lose sight of the transparency and accountability that Americans expect. We can secure our border, enforce the law, and protect free speech without chaos or cruelty. That’s the standard Utah will hold.”

Meanwhile, many remained skeptical about the details of the alleged assault, likening Frost’s claims to those of hate crime hoaxer Jussie Smollett.
