Truck convoy organizer says they plan to encircle D.C. and ‘squeeze’ like a giant boa constrictor

While Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was successful in using the unrestrained power of government to crush the Freedom Convoy protest in Canada, with the streets of Ottawa now clear and many protesters in jail, the truckers’ American cousins appear to be about to engage in a convoy of their own.

Bob Bolus, identified as an organizer of one of the Truckers for Freedom convoys, was interviewed by Fox 5 DC’s Lindsay Watts and he said the plan is for a convoy of truck drivers to descend on the nation’s capital and shut down the Beltway that encircles the city — President Biden is set to deliver his State of the Union address on March 1.

“We intend to circle Washington, D.C., and basically, I’ll give you an analogy of that of a giant boa constrictor,” Bolus said. “That basically squeezes you, chokes you, and then swallows you. And that’s what we’re going to do to D.C.”

Watts informed Bolus that there are a lot of people who don’t want that to happen, people who have to go to work being chief among them. The reporter also asked about emergency vehicles needing to reach people who are ill or in need of help.

“There will be a lane open for emergency vehicles, to get in and get out,” he replied, when asked about the risks. “We will not compromise anybody’s safety or health, one way or another. As for those who can’t get to work, gee, that’s too bad.”

Of course, this is one man’s take on what he expects to happen — it remains to be seen just how successful the group may be if they attempt to pull it off.

Watts noted that Bolus, who owns a towing company in Scranton, Pennsylvania, “is staunchly pro-Trump,” and the organizer was unapologetic about affecting the lives of local residents.

“It’s the way it’s gotta be to make Congress understand,” he explained. “The more people scream, the more when we hit the midterms we do a house cleaning and get our country back the way it should be.”

Bolus said they respect the Freedom Convoy truckers in Canada and among his complaints was “the high prices of fuel” and vaccine mandates. He also mentions critical race theory and people in jail facing charges related to the Jan. 6 protest.

Watts shared a statement from the Virginia State Police that said they continue “to monitor the situation and communicate with our National Capital Region local, state and federal partners. This is a standard practice any time the potential exists for a significant protest that could disrupt the safe and efficient flow of traffic on Virginia highways.”

“Troopers around the region are working with federal, state and local agencies to monitor developments … and will be ready to respond appropriately … to ensure the free flow of traffic,” Maryland State Police said, according to NBC Washington.

D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee said his department is also monitoring the situation.

“As for all of our First Amendment demonstrations that happen here in the city, we have to be in a posture of preparedness for the information that we know,” he said. “Obviously, we follow the trends around the country just as you guys are doing, and when we see trends that may impact us here in Washington, D.C., we prepare for them.”

A political action committee, Great American Patriot Project, was just launched to fund several truck convoys expected to begin in early March across the United States.

“You are cordially invited to peacefully express your constitutionally protected rights,” the campaign’s website reads. “Truckers are the lifeblood of the nation. Frontline healthcare workers are the first line of defense for public health matters. When they are upset, we should listen.”

A recent Rasmussen poll showed that a majority of Americans would support a US-based trucker convoy protest.

A campaign called The People’s Convoy is set to start rolling on Wednesday, February 23 from Adelanto Stadium in southern California, in what they call “a peaceful and unified transcontinental movement.”

LifeSite News reported that Newsmax and Eric Bolling “indicated that they will do a ride-along and live daily updates from the convoy with Maureen Steele.”

The group said in a press release: “The truckers and blue-collar workers of the United States will be joined by freedom-loving supporters from all walks of life – frontline doctors, lawyers, first- responders, former military servicemen and women, students, retirees, mothers, fathers and children – on this peaceful and law-abiding transcontinental journey toward the east coast.”

“The message of The People’s Convoy is simple. The last 23 months of the COVID-19 pandemic have been a rough road for all Americans to travel: spiritually, emotionally, physically, and – not least – financially,” the release added. “With the advent of the vaccine and workable therapeutic agents, along with the hard work of so many sectors that contributed to declining COVID-19 cases and severity of illness, it is now time to re-open the country. The average American worker needs to be able to end-run the economic hardships of the last two years, and get back to the business of making bread – so they can pay their rents and mortgages and help jumpstart this economy. To that end, it’s time for elected officials to work with the blue-collar and white-collar workers of America and restore accountability and liberty – by lifting all mandates and ending the state of emergency – as COVID is well-in-hand now, and Americans need to get back to work in a free and unrestricted manner.”
