Trump admin asks Florida court to release currently sealed Epstein transcripts

Attorney General Pam Bondi has reportedly filed an expedited motion requesting the release of all federally held grand jury transcripts from deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse cases.

In calling for the release of the transcripts, she pointed to the recent passage of the Epstein Files Transparency Act, according to The Hill.

“In the light of the Act’s clear mandate, the Court should authorize the Department of Justice to release the grand jury transcripts and lift any preexisting protective orders that would otherwise prevent public disclosure,” the motion she filed read.

The motion also included a promise to redact any confidential/sensitive information from the files were they to be released.

This move by Bondi comes months after President Donald Trump ordered her to release the grand jury transcripts.

“Based on the ridiculous amount of publicity given to Jeffrey Epstein, I have asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to produce any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony, subject to Court approval,” he wrote at the time.

However, the administration’s attempts to unseal the transcripts were initially blocked by the courts.

“The judges, based in Florida and New York, panned the unsealing effort, in part because they noted the Justice Department already had reams of material that it could release on its own,” according to Politico.

“In addition, they said, the grand jury records themselves were limited and unlikely to shed new light on the evidence against Epstein and Maxwell,” Politico’s reporting continued.

Bondi is reportedly hoping that this time, the courts will reconsider, given the passage and signing into law of the Epstein Files Transparency Act. The act was passed earlier in the week in response to the growing turmoil and hubbub over Epstein, his crimes, and his connections.

President Trump, in particular, has been calling for the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate Epstein’s connections to the Democrats. To that end, last week Bondi assigned one of the federal government’s most powerful prosecutors to investigate exactly that.

“SDNY U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton is one of the most capable and trusted prosecutors in the country, and I’ve asked him to take the lead,” Bondi announced in a tweet directed at President Trump.

What reportedly makes Clayton special is his post inside the Southern District of New York (SDNY).

“The [SDNY] is widely viewed by legal experts as one of the most powerful federal prosecutor’s offices in the country,” according to The Hill. “It has long been conferred a greater degree of independence than the nation’s other 92 U.S. attorneys’ offices, and is known for handling high-profile prosecutions of corruption, national security, sex trafficking and white-collar crime.”

Clayton previously served as a partner at the law firm Sullivan & Cromwell in New York and then later as head of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) during Trump’s first presidential term.

The only catch is that Clayton’s confirmation to the SDNY has been stalled by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer for political reasons, reportedly forcing Manhattan’s federal court judges to retain him on a more permanent interim basis until he’s finally confirmed.
