President Donald Trump is refusing to play with media outlets that only seem interested in undermining his authority.
On Sunday, the president made good on his promise to rename the Gulf of Mexico, the Gulf of America. Additionally, he declared February 9, 2025, to be “Gulf of America Day” as a way of celebrating the change.
The executive order explains the decision to rename:
I took this action in part because, as stated in that Order, “[t]he area formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico has long been an integral asset to our once burgeoning Nation and has remained an indelible part of America.”
Today, I am making my first visit to the Gulf of America since its renaming. As my Administration restores American pride in the history of American greatness, it is fitting and appropriate for our great Nation to come together and commemorate this momentous occasion and the renaming of the Gulf of America.
The Associated Press has made it clear that they have no intention of using “Gulf of America” in any of their stories, opting to stick with “Gulf of Mexico.” Because of this, Trump denied the outlet’s reporter entry to the Oval Office.
“Today our [AP] White House reporter was denied access to the Oval Office because the Associated Press recognizes the international body of water on our southern coastline as the Gulf of Mexico, while acknowledging President Donald Trump’s order to rename it the Gulf of America,” Tara Copp, the outlet’s Pentagon reporter, posted on X, along with a brief explanation of the reason behind their unwillingness to acknowledge the change.

According to the piece, the AP style book will recognize Trump’s authority to rename America’s highest peak back to Mount McKinley, after former President Barack Obama changed it to Denali in 2015.
But it will not play ball with the Gulf of America.
“The Gulf of Mexico has carried that name for more than 400 years. The Associated Press will refer to it by its original name while acknowledging the new name Trump has chosen. As a global news agency that disseminates news around the world, the AP must ensure that place names and geography are easily recognizable to all audiences,” the article read.
X users weren’t exactly sad about AP being barred from the Oval Office:

Good. Calling the Gulf of America the “Gulf of Mexico” is fake news at this point.
You can do your fake news reports from the sidewalk instead.

The AP lies routinely and has bias against President Trump. You should be excluded every time.
