There is no pleasing the left when it comes to President Donald Trump.
After one month in office, the president held a reception Thursday to acknowledge Black History Month and honor black Americans’ contributions to the nation. Even amid the celebration, and lively greeting for golf great Tiger Woods, Trump’s words were met with the left’s usual cynicism and critiques.
Politico reported on Thursday’s event by accusing the president of “abolishing decades of diversity efforts throughout the federal government and beyond, removing many Black employees from the federal workforce, and leading a culture war on ‘woke’ diversity, equity and inclusion policies he disparaged as ‘dangerous’ and ‘immoral’ race-based programs.”
“Today we pay tribute to the generations of Black legends, champions, warriors and patriots that help drive our country forward to greatness,” Trump said during the East Room ceremony.

But in his remarks, Trump noted how the last administration “tried to reduce all of American history to a single year: 1619.”
“Under our administration, we honor the indispensable role black Americans have always played in the immortal cause of another date: 1776,” he said.

“Together, we’re going to be fighting long and hard for black Americans and ALL Americans,” Trump vowed.

“One of the big reasons I’m president today is because of the black vote,” Trump noted.
Former Republican National Committee chair Michael Steele joined the chorus of leftist critics, saying ahead of the White House event, “For Donald Trump, this has never been a serious effort.”
“What is the point of this gathering, other than crowding the east room with a bunch of Black folks and pretending like you give a sh-t about what’s happening in our community?” he said, according to Politico.
But those in attendance enjoyed the event and, like Trump, tuned out the whining of negative critics.
“Rep. John James of Michigan, one of five Black Republicans currently serving on Capitol Hill, attended the event and said prior to the start of the ceremony that he was ‘humbled to be able to honor the trailblazers’ with Trump,” Politico reported.
Tiger Woods was invited to speak amid chants from the crowd attending the event.

Trump also spoke of goals to honor black historical figures in his planned National Garden of American Heroes.
“We’re picking the final sites now. It’s between various states that want it very badly. We’ll honor hundreds of our greatest Americans to ever live, including countless black American icons,” Trump the guests in attendance in the East Room.
“The garden will predominantly feature incredible women like Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Billie Holiday, Aretha Franklin and Coretta Scott King,” he said.
