Rumors that President-elect Donald J. Trump will pick former congressman Mike Rogers as the new director of the FBI appear to be just that, with a top aide putting the kibosh on the idea.
A former FBI agent, Rogers’ candidacy to replace Christopher Wray generated positive buzz in the media with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins reporting that Trump plans to fire the current FBI boss and replace him with Rogers along with Kash Patel as the deputy FBI Director, calling it “an attempt to please both camps.”
But an FBI director job for Rogers isn’t going to happen with top Trump aide and future White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino sticking a fork in the reports in a Friday post to X.
Just spoke to President Trump regarding Mike Rogers going to the FBI. It’s not happening — In his own words, “I have never even given it a thought.” Not happening.

“Just spoke to President Trump regarding Mike Rogers going to the FBI. It’s not happening — In his own words, ‘I have never even given it a thought.’ Not happening,” Scavino wrote.
Rogers is looking for a job after narrowly losing his race for Michigan’s U.S. Senate seat to Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), a former CIA analyst, in a battle between two Deep State alumni.
A GOP source told Fox News Digital, “Rogers met with Trump last week at the president-elect’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. He also met with Trump’s transition team to discuss potentially serving as FBI director, sources familiar said,” the outlet reported.
A full-throated backer of the abusive Security State, Rogers drew fierce opposition from many who saw him as being as bad as – if not worse – than Wray.
There’s literally no worse appointment possible than choosing Mike Rogers for FBI Director, or for any government position.
He’s the single most devoted loyalist to the US Security State and all of its multi-faceted abuses. It doesn’t get worse than Mike Rogers. https://t.co/HNU6GZx8p2

Rogers shot down social media reports that he received glowing praise from disgraced former FBI Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, a figure who was instrumental in framing Trump for the Russigate hoax, angrily denying it as “fake news” while distancing himself from McCabe.
“This is FAKE NEWS. Not only has he not endorsed me, I would completely and TOTALLY REJECT his endorsement. McCabe abused FISA to spy on Americans and perpetuated the fake Steele Dossier. McCabe represents all the political FBI lawyers who wrongly politicized and weaponized the FBI. IT’S DISGRACEFUL AND UN-AMERICAN,” Rogers said on X.

If true, McCabe’s endorsement could have been the kiss of death.
“For transition, we don’t speculate on selections and don’t get ahead of official announcements from President Trump,” Trump transition spokesman Brian Hughes said, according to Fox News.
