Trump set to attend opening of Alligator Alcatraz after DHS ‘coming soon!’ meme triggers the Left

The Department of Homeland Security sent the left into a meltdown after sharing a post of alligators as ICE agents.

The AI-generated meme was shared on X as President Donald Trump’s administration moves ahead with Alligator Alcatraz, a migrant detention center in the heart of the Florida Everglades.

“Coming soon!” DHS captioned the post that depicted alligators in ICE baseball caps.

Alligator Alcatraz is situated on the site of an abandoned airfield, with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s administration utilizing emergency powers to authorize the facility, which is initially set to have 500 to 1,000 beds.

“Clearly, from a security perspective, if someone escapes, you know, there’s a lot of alligators. No one’s going anywhere,” DeSantis said last week.

President Trump is expected to attend the opening of the facility this week, accompanied by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem.

News of the president’s planned attendance for Tuesday’s grand opening was celebrated on X.

Friends of the Everglades and the Center for Biological Diversity sued the state last week over the planned facility, but the governor has defended the idea.

“Governor Ron DeSantis has insisted that Florida will be a force multiplier for federal immigration enforcement, and this facility is a necessary staging operation for mass deportations located at a pre-existing airport that will have no impact on the surrounding environment,” said Bryan Griffin, a spokesman for DeSantis. “We look forward to litigating this case.”

Former CIA officer Christopher Burgess slammed the ICE alligator post as “Disgusting.” He wasn’t the only one triggered by the image.

“This is not a joke – this is state-sponsored intimidation,” one social media user fumed. “We are treating human beings like prey.”

“A horrendous lack of humanity,” wrote Brett Bruen, a former U.S. diplomat.

It seemed the alligator meme didn’t sit too well with others who had more subdued reactions.

But there were plenty of other X users who found some humor in the post and cheered on the serious response to those breaking U.S. immigration laws.
