Trump thanks ‘power of prayer’ for recovery: ‘I just took off the last bandage off of my ear’

Ahead of a planned return to the site of the attempt on his life, the former president spoke to faith and “the power of prayer” with an announcement about his recovery.

In the two weeks since a would-be assassin’s bullet came within centimeters of taking former President Donald Trump’s life, many have reflected on the seeming miracle that saw him turn his head at precisely the right moment to limit the extent of his injury.

That faith was prominent in the GOP leader’s remarks Friday as he addressed Turning Point Faith’s “The Believers Summit” in West Palm Beach, Florida, and announced that he’d been able to shed the last of his bandages.

“I’m thrilled to be back with so many proud, hardworking American patriots who believe in faith and family, God and country. Thank you very much,” Trump said early in his speech. “And we want to thank each and every one of the believers in this room for your prayers and your incredible support. I really did appreciate it.”

“Something was working. That we know. Something was working. So, I thank you very much. And I stand before you tonight, thanks to the power of prayer and the grace of Almighty God,” asserted the president.

“As I think you can see, I’ve recovered well. And, in fact, I just took off the last bandage off of my ear,” he went on mimicking tearing it away from where one of the suspect’s bullets had hit. “I just got it off. I took it off for this group. I don’t know why I did that for this group, but that’s it. I think that’s it. I hope that’s it.”

In addition to the president’s injuries, David Dutch and James Copenhaver were reportedly recovering from their wounds, having been struck by the would-be assassin who’d fired upon the July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania that resulted in the tragic death of former firefighter Corey Comperatore.

Friday, Trump also revealed that he would be making a return to the site to finish the rally that had been cut short and to honor the victims.

“I WILL BE GOING BACK TO BUTLER, PENNSYLVANIA, FOR A BIG AND BEAUTIFUL RALLY, HONORING THE SOULD OF OUR BELOVED FIREFIGHTING HERO, COREY, AND THOSE BRAVE PATRIOTS INJURED TWO WEEKS AGO. WHAT A DAY IT WILL BE — FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT! STAY TUNED FOR DETAILS,” he’d posted to Truth Social, having already paid tribute to Comperatore with a stirring moment during his convention speech that had featured the firefighter’s bunker gear on stage.

According to his former White House physician, Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson (R), “…President Trump is doing extremely well. He is rapidly recovering from the gunshot wound to his right ear.”

The congressman’s update on the president’s health also included a slam against FBI Director Christopher Wray who would not commit to stating Trump had been struck by a bullet during congressional testimony earlier in the week.

The Turning Point Faith address also warranted Trump an opportunity to call out believers’ absence from the ballot box. “Christians have to vote. You know, I don’t want to scold you, but do you know that Christians do not vote proportionately; they don’t vote like they should. They’re not big voters.”

While also asserting that gun owners don’t turn out as much as they should to protect their rights, the former president noted matter-of-factly, “If you don’t vote, we’re not gonna win the election. If you do vote, we’re gonna win in a landslide too big to rig. We’re gonna win in a landslide.”

“You know,” he added, “you have tremendous power, but you just don’t know that.”
