Turning on each other, Marjorie Taylor Greene hits back after Boebert takes crack at her

Opposition to House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., becoming the next speaker is inflicting unfortunate casualties as seen on Monday when two GOP firebrands went at it.

A small group of Republican lawmakers are denying McCarthy the 218 votes he needs to become the next speaker of the House in January and U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., found herself in the crosshairs over her support for McCarthy when U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., took a shot at her.

Boebert made an appearance at a Turning Point USA event in Phoenix on Monday, along with U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., with founder Charlie Kirk noting that “someone who we all respect – Marjorie Taylor Greene – says Kevin McCarthy is gonna be a great speaker.”

Gaetz, a driving force in the opposition to McCarthy, was diplomatic in his answer, saying: “I’m a fan of hers, I’m an admirer, but it’s not something we see the same on.”

Boebert, on the other hand, went for the jugular.

“I’ve been aligned with Marjorie and accused of believing a lot of the things that she believes in,” she replied. “I don’t believe in this, just like I don’t believe in Russian space lasers, Jewish space lasers, and all of this.”

The remark was a crack at Greene over a 2018 Facebook post in response to wildfires in California that questioned whether laser beams from the sky could cause fires on earth, with Greene saying this “wouldn’t look so good for [Pacific Gas & Electric], Rothschild Inc, Solaren or Jerry Brown who sure does seem fond of PG&E.”

Greene would not let the crack stand, taking to Twitter to punch back.

“I’ve supported and donated to Lauren Boebert. President Trump has supported and donated to Lauren Boebert,” she tweeted. “Kevin McCarthy has supported and donated to Lauren Boebert. She just barely came through by 500 votes.”

“She gladly takes our $$$ but when she’s been asked: Lauren refuses to endorse President Trump, she refuses to support Kevin McCarthy, and she childishly threw me under the bus for a cheap sound bite,” she added. “The country is facing extremely difficult times. Americans expect conservative fighters like us to work together to Save America and that is the only mission I’m 100% devoted to, not high school drama and media sound bites. Save America! Defeat the Democrats!”

Boebert said Monday that her support for McCarthy was conditional, tying it to any lawmaker having the ability to call a motion to vacate the Speaker chair.

“We have to have an accountability mechanism on the Speaker of the House,” she said during an interview with Real America’s Voice. “This is third in command for the presidency of the United States of America and we are going to strip away the one check-and-balance that members of Congress have?”
