US downs 4th unidentified flying object on Sunday; lawmakers denounce ‘radio silence’ from Biden

Government officials have reportedly confirmed four separate objects have been shot down in American airspace over a span of eight days, yet aside from the initial Chinese spy balloon, details have remained scant leading to legislators from either side of the aisle demanding answers.

Whether meant to distract from some more pressing concern or itself a serious issue that is being dismissed as trivial, the federal government’s lacking forthrightness about unmanned aerial vehicles entering American territory and either surveilling or threatening its citizens has spoken volumes. Members of the legislative branch spoke out across social media Sunday asking why President Joe Biden or his Defense Department haven’t provided a satisfactory briefing to the public, or at least Congress, by now.

Among them was Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green (R-Ga.) who wrote on Twitter, “There’s been space junk, weather balloons, spy balloons, and military advancements for years. All of sudden world super powers are shooting unidentified objects down. This looks like a testing of military prowess. Lack of evidence and briefings are extremely noticeable.”

GOP Reps. Lisa McClain (MI), Andy Biggs (AZ), Matt Rosendale (MT), and Sen. Steve Daines (MT) each publicly critiqued the administration for failing to keep constituents apprised of what, if any, threat may be posed to the public.

“I have been keeping a close eye on the military’s actions over the Great Lakes today. Our state, and the entire country, deserve answers to what happened, and I will ensure we get them,” McClain posted while Biggs asserted, “Americans deserve to know what is being shot down in our airspace. DOD and the Biden White House have been radio silent.”

Meanwhile, Montana lawmakers Rosendale and Daines have yet to be able to provide solid answers for what specifically triggered the Federal Aviation Administration closing off airspace on Saturday, leading them to tweet respectively, “Members of Congress must have more timely and accurate information so we can keep our constituents informed. DOD — where are you?” and, “The top priority of the administration should be the safety and security of the people of the United States and keeping the American people informed is a key part of fulfilling that duty. President Biden owes Montanans and the country an immediate and full explanation.”

Even Democratic lawmakers like Rep. Debbie Dingell (MI) got in on that action, echoing the sentiment of her colleague McClain in a tweet that read, “The increasing incidents of unidentified objects, the latest over Lake Huron in Michigan airspace, are disturbing. We need the facts about where they are originating from, what their purpose is, and why their frequency is increasing.”

“Our national security is of the utmost importance & we must work in a bipartisan way with the Administration & relevant partners for answers and the appropriate reaction. I’m thankful to the Air Force, National Guard & all our military forces working vigilantly to keep us safe,” she added.

Furthermore, the Biden administration has only allowed speculation to grow as, in the absence of definitive statements, the Chinese government has appeared to capitalize on the lack of information to sow discord with claims that they too have been facing concerns of unidentified flying objects entering their air space.
