Yet another vulnerable Democrat has distanced herself from President Joe Biden as Election Day looms nearer and nearer.
“I don’t work for Donald Trump or Joe Biden,” Ohio Rep. Marcy Kaptur said earlier this month.
According to the Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF) SuperPAC, it was a complete about-face from what she’d said in October of 2020.
“It will be my honor to not just vote for Joe Biden, but to work for him and Sen. Kamala Harris,” she said at the time.
Watch:
“Marcy Kaptur knows the Biden-Harris administration has hurt Ohioans, which is why she’s is trying to have them forget,” CLF spokesperson Courtney Parella told Fox News. “But voters know through Kaptur’s own words, she works for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, not Ohioans — period.”
Kaptur is also one of a total of sixteen vulnerable House Democrats who’ve been accused by Fox News of traveling 133 combined times to the Biden White House to pow-wow with the Biden administration that they’re now distancing themselves from.
All sixteen are listed below:
- Connecticut Rep. Jahana Hayes (18 times)
- Pennsylvania Rep. Susan Wild (18 times)
- Ohio Rep. Emilia Sykes (11 times)
- Alaska Rep. Mary Peltola of Alaska (10 times)
- Illinois Rep. Eric Sorensen (9 nines)
- Texas Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (9 times)
- New Mexico Rep. Gabe Vasquez (8 times)
- Colorado Rep. Yadira Caraveo (7 times)
- Oregon Rep. Andrea Salinas (7 times)
- Ohio Rep. Marcy Kaptur (7 times)
- Indiana Rep. Frank Mrvan (7 times)
- Pennsylvania Rep. Chris Deluzio (6 times)
- Minnesota Rep. Angie Craig (5 times)
- Pennsylvania Rep. Matt Cartwright (5 times)
- North Carolina Rep. Don Davis (4 times)
- Maine Rep. Jared Golden (2 times)
While the reason for their visits is unknown, what’s known is that, as an example, Alaska’s Mary Peltola has been to the White House nearly a dozen times and claimed the president’s “mental acuity is very, very on” and that he’s among the “smartest, sharpest” people in D.C.
Of course, President Biden isn’t running for reelection anymore, so he’s not as relevant to the discussion — save for the fact that his replacement, Vice President Kamala Harris, is running on basically the same agenda through and through.
Dovetailing back to Peltola, she’s faced criticism from state Republicans for always kowtowing to Biden’s agenda.
“Earlier this year, she voted ‘present’ on the Alaska’s Right to Produce Act to roll back some of the 63 executive orders Biden has made against the state’s oil and gas economy,” Fox News notes.
In a statement to Fox News, a spokesperson for the congresswoman sought to defend her and her visits to the White House.
“Since Rep. Peltola was elected, she’s attended and brought Alaskans to public events at the White House to share unique Alaskan perspectives with decision-makers, but her biggest motivation for going was her successful push for the Willow Project,” the spokesperson said.
“She secured a meeting so she and Sens. Murkowski and Sullivan could advocate for the Willow Project. Because of Rep. Peltola’s advocacy, a project that’s been in limbo for decades will open hundreds of new oil wells and create good-paying Alaskan jobs. The last private conversation she had with the president was when he phoned to offer condolences shortly after her husband passed away last year in September,” they added.
Then there’s Minnesota’s Angie Craig, who visited the White House five times and reportedly attended several events/meetings with Biden present. Yet when the 2024 election swung about, she was quick to call for Biden to “step aside for the next generation of leadership.”
Next is Maine’s Jared Golden. He’s unique. Besides visiting the White House the fewest times, he’s been very upfront about his beliefs throughout the 2024 race.
In fact, after the president’s disastrous debate with former President Donald Trump earlier this summer, he penned an op-ed warning that Trump was destined to win the election.
“Biden’s poor performance in the debate was not a surprise,” he wrote. “It also didn’t rattle me as it has others, because the outcome of this election has been clear to me for months: While I don’t plan to vote for him, Donald Trump is going to win. And I’m OK with that.”
