WaPo’s Jennifer Rubin comes to rescue when ‘stupid’ voters pin skyrocketing gas prices on Biden

Democrats seem to continue to ignore the anger of Americans over President Joe Biden’s handling of the economy and causing record-high gas prices.

From a former Democrat senator dismissing the skyrocketing prices at the pump and the left-leaning press insulting Americans over their criticism of the Biden administration, the fact that an ABC News poll showed a majority disapproved of the president’s decisions seemed to be lost on them.

In a tweet on Sunday, Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin shared the ABC News poll and essentially called voters “stupid” for blaming Biden for the soaring gas prices which spiked further after the ban on Russian oil imports announced last week.

“[V]oters in a (stupid) nutshell: According to ABC News/Ipsos data, 70% disapprove of Biden’s handling of gas prices, though even more respondents — 77% — support his proposal to ban Russian oil, even if it means paying more at the pump,” Rubin tweeted.

The same poll was discussed on Sunday’s episode of “This Week” on ABC News where fill-in host Jonathan Karl spoke with former Democrat senator from North Dakota, Heidi Heitkamp.

“Our new poll, had some interesting numbers, first of all, it showed an overwhelming support for the ban on Russian oil, 77% support it, even if it means, the poll question, even if it means higher gas prices here at home. But take a look at this other question we asked, which is, ‘Biden’s handling of gas prices, do you approve?’ Seventy percent disapprove so, in other words, ban Russian oil even if it means higher gas prices, but we’re going to blame Biden,” Karl said.

Heitkamp wasted no time blaming former President Donald Trump after lamenting cynically that “you always blame the party in power” and contending that Biden’s administration has not been “aggressive enough, in my opinion, in pushing back on the red herrings.”

“Who drove up inflation? We saw the CBO numbers this week. It was the Trump administration that overspent and drove up inflation so if inflation in prices and housing and in gas is because of deficit spending, that’s Trump’s fault and so the administration has not been nearly aggressive enough to explain what’s actually going on,” she said.

Karl interjected, saying that inflation began to rise as soon as Biden was sworn in, adding “but look at this chart on gas prices just since February. If you look — it is a shocking increase.”

Heitkamp cut him off with a shocking dig at Americans, claiming that the beginning prices Karl was showing were “artificially low.”

“Can I just say that is an artificially low price you’re starting from and when you do inflation adjustment, this isn’t the highest price we’ve had in the last 20 years,” she said.

“In fact, George Herbert Walker Bush under the George Bush administration we had gas prices, inflation-adjusted over $5. But we’re shocked because we got used to $2 gas. And that’s the problem!” she claimed.

Despite the rising prices at the pump, Biden has refused to increase domestic energy production and has, instead, found everyone else to blame for the current state of affairs, including accusing oil companies of price gouging.

“Although the White House and its allies in the media have attempted to blame ongoing inflation issues on Russian President Vladimir Putin because of his invasion of Ukraine, inflation reports indicated record levels of increase in February, prior to the invasion,” Fox News reported. “Even in Dec. 2021, months before the Ukraine invasion, inflation rose by 6.8%, the largest single increase in almost 40 years.”

Americans on Twitter are understandably not taking the condescending sneering in silence, slamming both Heitkamp and Rubin.
