‘Warmonger’ Lindsey Graham to Zelenskyy: ‘The Russians are dying… best money we’ve ever spent’

South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R) latest photo op visit to Ukraine may not have been the look he was going for as the lawmaker seemed to gleefully bask over the horrors of war.

“It’s the best money we’ve ever spent.”

On the heels of President Joe Biden’s continued support of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, committing F-16s and training while attending the G7 summit in Japan, Graham traveled to the war torn country and met face-to-face with the leader to do the same.

Joining the foreign president alongside Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko and defense officials, a conversation on freedom took a dark turn when the senator reveled in the impact American munitions were having against the invading forces.

“Free or die? Free or death,” was the choice Graham had suggested the Ukrainians were faced with when Russian President Vladimir Putin had begun the invasion in Feb. 2022.

Responding with optimism, Zelenskyy said, “Now we are free. And we will be.”

It was then the congressman presented himself as more “warmonger” than hawk as video of the discussion presented him saying, “And the Russians are dying.”

“It’s the best money we’ve ever spent,” he added with something of a smile.

Reactions to the remark were far from favorable as some focused on how readily Graham dismissed the possibility of a negotiated end to the conflict while others noted the fast-approaching deadline on the debt ceiling with suggestions on far better uses for taxpayer dollars, like defending America’s sovereignty first.

Graham didn’t leave his remarks at that as he once more alleged war crimes had been committed by Putin, presenting himself as judge and jury ahead of a funded execution. He further suggested Taiwan would fall victim to the same aggression from China if the U.S. didn’t continue to act, again ruling out the possibility of anything short of violence in foreign policy.

“The industrial level war crimes that have been committed against the Ukrainian people — if they are forgiven in the name of peace, you will have destroyed everything we’ve stood for since the end of WWII. There can be no forgiving and forgetting when it comes to Putin’s war crimes,” he said at a press conference. “There can be no backing off of helping Ukraine because if we fail here, there goes Taiwan.”

Of note, the senator had previously reaffirmed his support of the Ukrainian military effort in December around the same time that a $1.7 trillion omnibus package was getting passed. At the time, he had suggested the war would end, “When Russia breaks and they take Putin out. Anything short of that, the war is going to continue.”

“To ask the Ukrainians to give Russia part of their country after all this death and destruction is not going to happen,” Graham went on. “To signal a cease-fire, Russia will take the opportunity to rearm and come at them again. So we’re in it to win it. And the only way you’re going to win it is to break the Russian military and have somebody in Russia take Putin out.”

Then-Fox News host Tucker Carlson had said at the time, “So, it’s really hard to overstate how crazy this is. And you don’t want to play shrink and wonder about, you know, what emptiness at the core of Lindsey Graham’s personal life causes him to identify so strongly with a country he’s not a citizen of.”

That remark came after pointing out, “The real goal is not to move Russian troops out of Ukraine, back to pre-February borders. The real goal is regime change in Russia.”
