‘We are just getting started’: DHS says 2.5M illegals have now exited US

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that 2.5 million illegal aliens have exited the United States since President Donald Trump assumed office.

“Since January 20, 2025, DHS enforcement operations have resulted in more than 605,000 deportations,” the department said in a statement. “DHS has prioritized removing the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens as part of the Trump Administration’s efforts to return law and order to the United States.”

“Additionally, thanks to the comprehensive efforts of DHS law enforcement, 1.9 million illegal aliens have voluntarily self-deported since January 2025. We encourage all illegal aliens to use the CBP Home app to get a free flight home for Christmas and $1,000,” the statement continued.

“The Trump Administration is shattering historic records with more than 2.5 million illegal aliens leaving the U.S.,” DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said. “DHS has deported more than 605,000 illegal aliens and another 1.9 million have self-deported.”

“Since January 20, DHS has arrested more than 595,000 illegal aliens. Illegal aliens are hearing our message to leave now. They know if they don’t, we will find them, we will arrest them, and they will never return,” she added.

In a statement made to Fox News, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem attributed this success directly to President Trump.

“In less than a year, President Trump has delivered some of the most historic and consequential achievements in presidential history, and this administration is just getting started,” she said.

“Under President Trump’s leadership, we are making America safe again and putting the American people first. In record time we have secured the border, taken the fight to cartels and arrested thousands upon thousands of criminal illegal aliens,” she added.

In a separate statement published to X, she drew attention to all the unaccompanied illegal alien children that the Trump administration has found and rescued.

These federal efforts have been buoyed by assistance from Republican-led states like Florida. In August, for example, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that the state would be expanding its capacity to detain and deport illegal aliens.

“Today, I announced that Baker Correctional Institution in Sanderson will now serve as a Deportation Depot to detain and process illegal immigrants for removal, building on the success the state has had with Alligator Alcatraz,” the governor said at the time. “We’ll enforce the law, we’ll hold the line, and we will keep delivering results.”

In Texas meanwhile, Gov. Greg Abbott has expanded Operation Lone Star, a border enforcement initiative that’s led to the arrests of over 500,000 illegal aliens.

The last Operation Lone Star campaign occurred in early June, when Texas conducted a week-long operation “to disrupt terrorist cartel activity.”

In Utah, Gov. Spencer Cox announced a “targeted effort” last year — right after the presidential election — to coordinate with federal immigration officials on finding and deporting illegal aliens who pose public safety threats.

“Utah will continue to welcome refugees and immigrants who enter the country lawfully, and we will continue pushing for reforms to the asylum process and for more visas to support our workforce needs,” Cox said in a statement. “We have zero tolerance, however, for those who demonstrate a threat to public safety while in the country illegally.”

“Federal immigration authorities have failed in their duty to the American people and they’ve left states and localities to independently manage the fallout of those failures. We’re grateful to have an administration coming in who will take these problems seriously,” he added.
