President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has survived another night of war, and according to a series of stunning videos he’s posted to social media within the past 24 hours, he still intends to stay til the end, despite an offer from the U.S. government to evacuate him.

The first video came Friday evening at eastern European standard time (EET) and featured him and his top aides standing outside the presidential office in Kyiv, prepared to stay and fight till the very end.

“Good evening everyone! Leader of the faction is here. Head of the president’s administration is here. Prime Minister [Denys] Shmyhal is here. [Adviser to the head of the President’s Office Mykhailo] Podoliak is here. The President is here,” he said, according to a translation from CNN.

“We are all here. Our military are here. Citizens and society are here. We are all here defending our independence, our state and it will remain so. Glory to our defenders! Glory to our women defenders! Glory to Ukraine!” he added.

In a formal announcement made later in the night around 12:30 am EET Saturday morning, he predicted that the Russians would “storm” Kyiv that evening.

“The night will be harder than the day. At night they will storm. You can not give up the capital. We must survive this night,” he said, according to a translation from The Telegraph.

“This night they will launch an assault. The enemy will use all of their power on all fronts to break our defense. This night we have to stand ground. The fate of Ukraine is being decided now,” he added.

Eight hours later, Zelenskyy emerged unscathed in a new video, this time to debunk false reports about him telling the Ukrainians to stop fighting.

“Ukrainians, it has now come to our attention that a lot of fake information has been circulating about me allegedly calling to our armed forces to lay down their arms, and to evacuate. Let’s get things straight. We are here, we are not laying down any arms, we are going to defend our nation,” he said, according to a translation from Insider.

“This is because our weapons are our truth, and our truth lies in the fact that this is our land, this is our country, our children, and we are going to defend all of this. So this is what I want to tell you. Glory to Ukraine!” he added.

Insider notes that the fake reports appear to have originated with a message posted on the social media platform Telegram.

“The message, written by a party claiming to be Zelensky, was in Russian, a language he does not typically use when addressing Ukrainians,” according to Insider.

It read as follows: “We are laying down our arms! Tell everyone! This is a difficult, but collective decision. We are delegating a negotiator, General Zhordochkin. We are ending our resistance efforts!”

Another four hours later, Zelenskyy issued another formal announcement, this time to celebrate having “withstood” the Russians yet another night.

“We have withstood and successfully repelled enemy attacks. The fighting continues in many cities and districts of our state, but we know that we are protecting the country, the land, the future of children,” he said, according to a translation from NBC News.

The address, seen below, was posted around 5:00 am eastern standard time, which meant it was around noon in Kyiv:

Ми вистояли і успішно відбиваємо атаки ворога. Бої тривають. У багатьох містах та районах нашої держави. Але ми знаємо, що ми захищаємо, – країну, землю, майбутнє дітей. Київ і ключові міста навколо столиці контролює саме наша армія. Окупанти хотіли заблокувати центр нашої держави і поставити тут своїх маріонеток, як у Донецьку. Ми зламали їхній задум.

He also reportedly pulled out his Russian to deliver a message to the Russian military.

“Thousands of victims, hundreds of prisoners who simply cannot understand why they were sent to Ukraine, sent to Ukraine to die, kill others. The sooner you tell your authorities that the war must be stopped immediately, the more of your people will remain alive,” he reportedly said.

But despite Zelenskyy’s confidence, foreign officials suspect this is just the beginning.

“Nobody should think that this is anywhere near over. What stands in front of Ukraine, its armed forces and very tragically its people, is days, weeks, months more of what we have seen over that last 48 hours,” British armed forces minister James Heapey said Saturday morning, according to The Telegraph.

And indeed, Zelenskyy had himself warned of his own death just days ago.

“This might be the last time you see me alive,” he’d reportedly told European leaders during a conference call Thursday.

The United States has since offered to evacuate him and his family from Ukraine, but according to an American intelligence official who spoke with the Associated Press, he rejected the offer, reportedly telling the official that “the fight is here” and that he needed anti-tank ammunition, “not a ride.”
