U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) might be in the running for most abusive elected official toward staff but she’ll never be accused of being the sharpest tool in the shed.
Then again, the 73-year-old Democrat likely had little to do with an embarrassing — if not illegal — campaign ad indicating the wrong date for her runoff election for mayor of Houston — the fact that Lee is in the running saying a lot about the American electorate today.
Up against Democratic state Sen. John Whitmire, Lee dropped an ad informing Houstonians that she has spent her entire time in office — 28 years in the DC swamp — “fighting” for them.
“Houston, I’ve spent my entire career fighting for you from fighting to keep our kids safe from guns when I was on city council, to my days in Congress fighting to protect women’s reproductive freedom and for funding for our police, schools and small businesses,” the career politician said in the spot. “Now I’m running for mayor, because if we’re gonna bring down crime, fix our streets, and bring good paying jobs here, then Houston needs a champion who’s ready to fight for what’s right. And I am.”
The ad concludes with a graphic overlay informing viewers to vote on December 7th or earlier — for an election that is being held on Saturday, December 9th.

Lee has told Houston voters that she “wants to come home” to be mayor, which suggests she sees the seat as a semi-retirement option with a respectable local government paycheck — the salary range for mayor is from $78,438 to $99,339 per year, according to Salary.com.
