Woke book available to NYC high schoolers lauds sex work as ‘a job like being a store clerk’

Workers of the world’s oldest profession have been given a huge respectability boost in New York City public high schools, thanks to a new uber-woke book that compares turning tricks from strangers to taking a job as a store clerk or pursuing a career as an architect.

Much to the dismay of many parents, “Seeing Gender: an Illustrated Guide to Identity and Expression” is available to teenagers thanks to former NYC Mayer Bill de Blasio and his “mosaic” curriculum, introduced in the city’s public high schools in the months leading up to his much-anticipated departure, according to the New York Post.

In a section entitled “‘Sex Work’ Is Not a Bad Term,” author Iris Gottlieb stresses that “sex work is work. It’s a job like being a store clerk, an architect, or a freelance writer.”

“We all, unfortunately, have to do work to make a living,” he says.

The 208-page guide is available for high schoolers to download free of charge and without parental consent via city students’ Department of Education (DOE)-sanctioned Sora app, which offers students a whole library of digital reading materials.

Congressional candidate and public school mom Maud Maron balked at the notion that sex work is on par with other work.

“Prostitution is not equivalent to other forms of work,” the Manhattan Democrat said plainly.

“Politicians will have their photos taken after they don an apron and flip pancakes at a charity event, even though they are not short-order cooks,” she noted. “But they won’t get on their knees to [sexually service] clients.”

Painting prostitution as any other job “is a lie, and everyone knows it,” Maron stated.

Republican Rob Astorino has made ridding New York schools of inappropriate smut a cornerstone of his gubernatorial campaign and agrees that “Seeing Gender” should not be available on a DOE-approved app.

“There’s a reason a stigma is attached to sex work,” he said. “We don’t want women or men to be in that position and have to deal with the dangerous part of it… I can’t imagine a parent hoping their child grows up to be a sex worker someday.”

And yet, the left keeps pushing to normalize the profession.

As BizPac Review reported in late May, police got involved after a middle school librarian in Virginia’s Louden County Public School (LCPS) district promoted the very same book.

Stefany Guido was reported by a Sterling Middle School teacher after claiming that promoting prostitution to 11- 13-year-old students is a good thing because some of those kids “do sex work” and the content, for them, is life-affirming.

According to the teacher, Guido “started talking about how there’s kids who come to the library who do sex work, and this makes them feel validated.”

In the “Sex Work” section, Gottlieb writes, “A person may exchange sex or sexual activity for things they need or want, such as food, housing, hormones, drugs, gifts, or other resources” and laments, “Sadly, sex work is generally misunderstood.”

But there’s no misunderstanding parents’ reactions to the book’s shocking message to young adults or to the school systems that carry it.

As one user on Twitter said in response to the Virginian librarian: “Homeschool. Homeschool. Homeschool. Homeschool. Homeschool.”
