An actor made somewhat famous for his reoccurring role on the popular Paramount Network series “Yellowstone” is facing the wrath of COVID zealots for announcing that he intends to skip this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards show because of its vaccine mandate.

In a polite and even apologetic Instagram video published Monday, actor Forrie J. Smith told his fans that he, unfortunately, would be unable to attend this year’s award show.

“I want to apologize to y’all for not being at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. I mean no offense to anyone. I’m not vaccinated, and it’s a requirement to be vaccinated to be at the Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony, and to be vaccinated with a booster shot and a negative COVID test within 48 hours. And you gotta wear a K-95, -62, -43, whatever kinda mask,” he said.

“I’m not vaccinated. I will not get vaccinated. I haven’t been vaccinated since I was a little kid. I don’t vaccinate my dogs. I don’t vaccinate my horses. I’ve never had a flu shot. I never will. I believe they compromise your immunities.”

He continued by apologizing again.

“And man, I’m sorry. I was sure looking forward to walking down the red carpet with my big, black American hat and my Justin Boots and representing my culture and my heritage, but I’m not going to be able to do that, and I apologize to ya’ll out there who are part of my culture and heritage,” he said.

Watch:

The video has since been deleted from his Instagram, presumably because of all the backlash.

Luckily for him, it appears he doesn’t have an account on Twitter, where the backlash has included claims that his statement was “word vomit” and that he’s just “another old white dude” who “won’t be missed.”

However, it seems like the support for him — particularly given his politeness — is greater than the dislike.

Anti-vaccine-mandate types have been profusely praising him. And even some people who disagree with his decision and are themselves vaccinated have said they respect the way he’s chosen to handle himself.

There’s a lot more where that came from.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards show is scheduled for Feb. 27th and will occur at the Barker Hanger in Santa Monica, California.

It’ll happen exactly two weeks after thousands of Americans (some unvaccinated), including many celebrities, congregated unmasked at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

Unlike the Super Bowl, the award show will require that all attendees be vaccinated, boosted and COVID negative. Attendees must also complete “an on-site health screening by Axiom Medical” and wear surgical-grade face coverings “at all times.”
