A Sharia-loving killer responsible for taking the lives of 14 at Fort Hood is set to face “Justice” after the president approved the manner of his execution.
Nearly 17 years after psychiatrist and then-U.S. Army major Nidal Hasan put jihadi motivations into action at the base outside Killeen, Texas, an announcement from the Pentagon set the stage for his impending death. Upon the recommendation of Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, President Donald Trump authorized the execution to be completed via firing squad.
In a brief statement posted to X, chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell announced, “Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has recommended — and President Donald J. Trump has approved — death by U.S. Army firing squad for convicted terrorist Nidal Malik Hasan, the jihadist who opened fire on unarmed American soldiers at Ford Hood in 2009.”
“He killed 13 people and wounded 32 others while shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ during the attack. The Secretary of the Army will set the time and place of the execution. Judgment day for Hasan has finally come,” continued the post as Hegseth reacted with the simple statement, “Justice.”

On November 5, 2009, Hasan went on a rampage at an administrative building where soldiers would be unarmed, ultimately leaving 14 dead — as 21-year-old Private Francheska Velez was reportedly three months pregnant, preparing for maternity leave — and wounding 32 others.
The remaining killed included: Major Libardo Eduardo Caraveo, 52; Staff Sgt. Justin M. DeGrow, 32; Capt. John P. Gaffaney, 56; Spc. Frederick Green, 29; Spc. Jason Dean Hunt, 22; Sgt. Amy Krueger, 29; Pfc. Aaron Thomas Nemelka, 19; Pfc. Michael Pearson, 22; Capt. Russell Seager, 51; Lt. Col. Juanita Warman, 55; Pfc. Kham Xiong, 23; and 62-year-old physician assistant Michael Grant Cahill.
When completed, the execution, which was under appeal until 2025 following the 2013 sentencing by military court, will mark the first execution of a service member since 1961.
Notably, under then-President Barack Obama, the Pentagon dubbed the deadly attack with Islamist motivations “workplace violence,” and terrorism charges were not pursued. Hasan himself stated at trial that he was acting on behalf of the “leadership of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the Taliban.”
His zeal for Islamism had not faded during incarceration. As previously reported, Hasan congratulated the Taliban under then-President Joe Biden following the commander-in-chief’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.
“We Have Won!!!” penned Hasan from his cell. “All-Praises be to All-Mighty Allah! Congratulations on your victory over those who hate for the Laws of All-Mighty God to be supreme on the land.”
He further added his prayers that Sharia be implemented “fully, correctly, and fairly.”

Approval for the firing squad came less than two weeks after it was reported that the War Department was seeking the president’s final approval. At the time, Hegseth told the Daily Caller News Foundation, “I am 100 percent committed to ensuring the death penalty is carried out for Nidal Hasan. This savage terrorist deserves the harshest lawful punishment for this 2009 mass shooting at Fort Hood. The victims and survivors deserve justice without delays.”
In addition to recommendations on how to go about the execution, social media was rife with volunteers offering to take on the responsibility of being a member of the firing squad.
