Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, D-New Jersey, is following former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi into retirement.
The 80-year-old lawmaker has officially announced her intent to retire in a post on X. As a refresher, she is one of the congresswomen who stormed the Delaney Hall Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facilities in a photo op with fellow Democrats Bob Menendez, LaMonica McIver, and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka.
Now, she’s “passing the torch” after spending over five decades in public service:

“Today, I’m announcing that I will not seek reelection next year. I made a commitment years ago to always lead the charge on behalf of those I represent, and I believe I have fulfilled that commitment to the very best of my abilities. I have always stood on the frontlines in the fight for principled progressive policies and my work has centered on the belief that there must be a floor below which we should never allow any child, family, or person to fall. I believe in giving voice to truth, speaking truth to power, and I believe as a consequence of that, we have been able to effect real results that will be felt in communities across America for generations. I also believe now is the time to pass the torch to the next leader who will continue leading this charge,” the post reads.

As BizPac Review previously reported, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries defended Watson Coleman and her Democrat allies in the wake of the ICE facility stunt, claiming that there was “no evidence” that any of them did anything wrong. This, despite claims that Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) was caught on camera shoving a federal agent.
“There’s no evidence to suggest that any member of Congress who was in Newark, visiting the detention facility in connection with their oversight authority, has done anything wrong,” Jeffries told reporters on Thursday.
“No videos have been produced suggesting that they’ve engaged in any inappropriate activity,” he added. “And if those videos existed, certainly they would have been put into the public domain by now. Those videos haven’t been released because they don’t exist.”
“The members of Congress, Bonnie Watson Coleman, LaMonica McIver, and Rob Menendez, were the ones who were subjected to overly aggressive behavior by people who are weaponizing the authority of the federal government as part of some effort to try to intimidate House Democrats,” the House leader claimed. “It’s not happening. They will not be successful as it relates to their efforts to intimidate us. Not today, not tomorrow, not next week, not next month, not next year, not ever.”
