Leaving no doubt as to where his loyalties lie, iconic actor Steven Seagal celebrated his 70th birthday in Moscow over the weekend and offered high praise for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Speaking at an event held at a Moscow restaurant over the weekend, Seagal reportedly called Putin a “great world leader.”
He can be heard in video footage telling Russian attendees that “each and everyone one of you, you are my family and my friends. And I love all of you and we stand together, through thick and through thin.”

The martial artist and action film star is of Russian descent and holds dual citizenship with Russia and the United States. He has also had a personal relationship with Vladimir Putin for many years.
Last month, during an interview with Fox News, Seagal commented on the invasion of Ukraine, noting that the embattled nations share many similarities.
“Most of us have friends and family in Russia and Ukraine,” he said at the time, adding, “I look at both as one family, and really believe it is an outside entity spending huge sums of money on propaganda to provoke the two countries to be at odds with each other.”
As for America, Seagal let his feelings be known in the runup to the 2016 election in a series of tweets — the actor was critical of failed Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
“I stand with the AMERICAN people. I stand with my constitutional rights. I stand with VETERANS getting proper care,,” he tweeted in Sept. 2016, adding, “People in this country need to unit and stop fighting each other. We have enough enemies, let’s be kind to one another!”
In a follow-up tweet, he said,” Our Country Needs To Rekindle The Unity We Felt After Sept. 11, 2001.”
The response to his comments over the weekend were all over the board. Here’s a quick sampling from Twitter:
