AOC excited over Clarence Thomas hit piece alleging lucrative friendship with GOP billionaire, but there’s a catch

The “journalists” at ProPublica are out with a hit piece accusing Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas of accepting gifts from a billionaire Republican donor named Harlan Crow, and according to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, it’s the smoking gun needed to take him out.

“For more than two decades, Thomas has accepted luxury trips virtually every year from the Dallas businessman without disclosing them, documents and interviews show,” the report from ProPublica, which has never once written about Hunter Biden, reads.

“A public servant who has a salary of $285,000, he has vacationed on Crow’s superyacht around the globe. He flies on Crow’s Bombardier Global 5000 jet. He has gone with Crow to the Bohemian Grove, the exclusive California all-male retreat, and to Crow’s sprawling ranch in East Texas. And Thomas typically spends about a week every summer at Crow’s private resort in the Adirondacks,” it continues.

The piece adds that the “extent and frequency of Crow’s apparent gifts to Thomas have no known precedent in the modern history of the U.S. Supreme Court.”

According to leftists, these allegations prove all their suspicions about Thomas are true and justify Democrats impeaching Thomas if they ever retake the House:

But it’s not just random leftists calling for impeachment. So is Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

“This is beyond party or partisanship. This degree of corruption is shocking – almost cartoonish. Thomas must be impeached,” she tweeted following the publication of ProPublica’s report.

“Barring some dramatic change, this is what the Roberts court will be known for: rank corruption, erosion of democracy, and the stripping of human rights,” she added.

There’s just one glaring problem. Thomas is reportedly good friends with Crow, and there’s no rule stating that it’s illegal for a judge to accept gifts from a friend.

“Food, lodging, or entertainment received as personal hospitality need not be reported. Personal hospitality means hospitality extended for a nonbusiness purpose by an individual, not a corporation or organization, at the personal residence of that individual or his or her family or on property or facilities owned by that individual or his or her family,” according to federal regulations.

Plus, Ocasio-Cortez has zero room to talk, if The New York Times’s latest bombshell is any indication.

“Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made international headlines when she wore a white gown scrawled with the words ‘Tax the Rich’ to the star-studded Met Gala in New York in September 2021. But now, congressional investigators have found “substantial reason to believe” that she might have violated House ethics rules and perhaps federal law by accepting gifts associated with the event,” the paper reported last month.

“At issue are the payments for the rental of the dress, jewelry, shoes and bag she wore to the event, as well as the costs of her makeup, hair, transportation and about $5,000 for a share of rooms at the Carlyle Hotel, where she prepared for the gala,” the paper added.

In fairness to Ocasio-Cortez, she eventually paid for everything, but not until the House Ethics Committee had begun an investigation.

Not a good look …

That being said, Ocasio-Cortez has found at least one avid supporter, and his name is Adam Kinzinger.
