Steve Bannon responded to last week’s reelection of Ronna McDaniel as chair of the Republican National Committee by telling “War Room” viewers to stop donating money to the GOP.
Coming off what was widely seen as a disastrous midterm election, where projected widespread control of both chambers was reduced to a slim four-seat margin in the House alone, McDaniel was challenged by California attorney Harmeet Dhillon and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell.
McDaniel received 111 votes, while Dhillon, a legal adviser to former President Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign and a former vice chairwoman of the California Republican Party, received 51 votes. Lindell, who adamantly opposes electronic voting machines, received just four votes. The outcome was seen as ignoring the will of the people — according to polling, Republicans wanted to see a change in leadership.
“It’s not just about Ronna being reelected. Hey, she ran a campaign… and they had these people vote for her and she won big,” Bannon said. “Even though Harmeet started late, and Mike Lindell started late. But it’s something deeper and more fundamental, I’ve got to process it. It is — that just can’t be it. If that’s going to be it, you’re not going to take this country back at that level.”
He noted that political parties at the state level are starved for cash, before offering his “strongest recommendation right now.”
“Hold the money… don’t send any money right now, just hold it, and we’ll think this through together,” he said. “And I’m not picking on the RNC. I tell people you want changes in the Catholic Church, hold the money right now. Just don’t send it, otherwise you are going to see more of this madness you see coming out of Rome every day and filtering down to left-wing bishops and then into the parishes.”
“The way to get their attention, the way to grab them by the throat, is to cut off the oxygen. The oxygen is always the small donors. If small donors don’t donate, then they understand they’ve got problems. There’s not enough big donors to write enough checks to make up for that.”
It would appear that the people are already ahead of Bannon here, according to comments seen online… here’s a quick sampling of responses from Twitter:
Haven’t sent money to RNC for years now. Given the recent choice of the Romney one again, I’ll never give to RNC again.

Send the envelopes back empty. They come postage prepaid so they will have to pay for every empty envelope

Sounds like a great idea!

I direct the emails from the RNC directly to my trash folder. I don’t even see them.
