Business Insider speculates on Trump’s DEATH and how it would impact 2024 election

The financial and business news website Business Insider has sparked outrage for speculating about what would happen if former President Donald Trump were to die before the 2024 presidential election.

In a report titled “Here’s what happens if Donald Trump dies while running in the 2024 presidential election,” the paper went into excruciating detail laying out exactly what would happen were Trump to die either before the year 2024 or after.

“If Trump were to die before January 1, 2024, there would likely be other Republicans who want to jump into the race. Many states’ filing deadlines have already passed, however, meaning that state election officials would need to adjust them to allow new candidates to enter the race,” the report reads.

“If Trump died during primary season — which ends in mid-June — some states may postpone their scheduled primaries. There’s some precedent for this; at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, more than a dozen states postponed their primaries or expanded vote-by-mail options,” the report continues.

If Trump were to die after the primaries but before the Republican National Convention, “the other GOP presidential candidates would have to make a case to every state delegation at the convention for why they should be the party’s nominee.”

And lastly, if Trump won the nomination but died before the election, the Republican National Convention would simply reconvene to select another nominee.

The piece has, as noted earlier, sparked backlash, with critics accusing Insider of producing “death porn” and alleging they’d never write something similar about a Democrat presidential candidate like, say, President Joe Biden.

Adding to the outrage has been the fact that the piece’s publication comes only days after Democrat Rep. Daniel Goldman called for Trump to be “eliminated.”

“It is just unquestionable at this point that that man cannot see public office again. He is not only unfit, he is destructive to our democracy, and he has to be, he has to be eliminated,” he said during an MSNBC appearance.

In fairness to Goldman, he did apologize a day later in tweets posted to X.

“Yesterday on TV, I mistakenly used the wrong word to express the importance for America that Donald Trump doesn’t become President again. While he must be defeated, I certainly wish no harm to him and do not condone political violence. I apologize for the poor choice of words,” he wrote.

Likewise, in fairness to Insider, the same author who penned the Trump “death porn” published a similar report about President Biden a couple days earlier. However, the report was titled differently and didn’t directly include Biden’s name.

What happens if a sitting president dies while running for reelection,” the report’s headline reads.

According to the report, were Biden to currently die, Vice President Kamala Harris would take over his position and also replace him on the Democrat ticket by default. However, if he were to die, other candidates would no doubt spring up.

“There’s no national deadline to file to run for president of the United States. Instead, filing deadlines vary depending on the state and party. Many states’ deadlines have already passed, however, meaning that state election officials would need to adjust them to allow new candidates to enter the race,” the report reads.

“If the president died during primary season — which ends in mid-June — some states may postpone their scheduled primaries. There’s some precedent for this; at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, more than a dozen states postponed their primaries or expanded vote-by-mail options,” it continues.

The report further notes that if Biden died after the primary elections but before the Democrat National Convention, “the other presidential candidates would have to make a case to every state delegation at the convention for why they should be the party’s nominee.”

And lastly, “if a president died after securing their party’s nomination but before Election Day, both the Democratic and Republican parties have guidelines in place for selecting an alternate.”
