Chicago’s leftist mayor spanks reporter for using the word ‘mob’ to describe teens who looted, trashed 7-11

Chicago’s woke Mayor Brandon Johnson berated a reporter for calling approximately 400 teenagers a “mob action” after they looted and violently ransacked a 7-Eleven.

Chicago’s new mayor was visibly offended when a reporter used the phrase and said it was inappropriate to refer to the juvenile criminals as “baby Al Capones.” He was addressing a wide range of issues on Wednesday, but the mob of teens hit a nerve with him. He instead referred to them as “large gatherings.”

“That’s not appropriate. We’re not talking about mob actions,” Johnson said, attempting to put the reporter in his place. “We have to be careful when we use language to describe certain behavior. There’s history in this city. I mean, to refer to children as like baby Al Capones is not appropriate.”

“Mob action” is a legitimate criminal charge that can be filed against someone under numerous circumstances.

It should be noted that 40 rioters were arrested out of the 400 who gathered to destroy the store. They were charged with reckless misconduct as well as more serious charges, according to the Daily Mail.

Most of them were juveniles and some were as young as 12 years old. A 15-year-old was arrested for having a gun with laser sights and a silencer. A 17-year-old was arrested for having a machine gun. Others were hit with criminal trespassing, resisting arrest, obstructing identification, and curfew violations.

The vandals stormed the convenience store in the South Loop just after 9 pm on Sunday.

“Mob action” certainly seems to apply to the hundreds of youngsters who turned that 7-Eleven upside down, throwing stolen merchandise in the street, and then running away with armfuls of goods.

Video footage also shows one teenager shooting off a fire extinguisher near the gas tanks outside the convenience store.

“The teen mobs is something that seriously needs to be taken seriously, and I would love to talk to him [Mayor Johnson] about it. Because I don’t think there’s nothing being done yet,” Jonathan Nowak, the owner of the trashed 7-Eleven store, told ABC Chicago.

The Chicago Police started making arrests after the group “became disorderly and disregarded multiple verbal commands by police to disperse.”

Interim Superintendent Fred Waller asserted that the police had no choice but to arrest the kids.

“Our posture has been tolerant, and usually when we say that it’s curfew and we ask them to disperse, they do,” he stated during a briefing on Monday. “Yesterday, they, so to speak, crossed the line.”

“The arrests are a result of the actions. Before we asked them to move, we asked them to go home. It was curfew time, and they did. This time, they refused. They began fighting against each other. We haven’t arrested people like that, but this group got so out of hand we had no choice,” he claimed.

Johnson praised the police for the way they handled the teenagers.

“To the best of their ability, I believe that they attempted to engage with our young people, with community partners – giving as much warning as they possibly could,” he commented. “And you know, unfortunately, arrests were made. Unfortunately, some damage was caused. And the level of sensitivity and patience that our officers expressed, I’m appreciative of that.”

The mob of up to 400 young people showed up following a “trend” announcement on social media.

Crimes have risen in Chicago by 36 percent this year compared to 2022. Johnson took over for Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot in May after she lost re-election. He is considered even more leftist than she is.

Approximately 32,204 crimes were committed in 2022. That figure has jumped to 43,677, according to the latest crime statistics. Not a good look for the new mayor who probably should be more concerned with the actual crime rate than a legal criminal phrase.

While Johnson was offended by the phrase “mob action,” many on social media were offended by his misplaced outrage:
