Chicago residents say they will take justice into their own hands if something isn’t done about the disruptive migrants who have flooded the Windy City, set up encampments at the local police station, and gone on crime sprees in the downtown district.
“They disrespect us, they rob us, they harass us,” one fed-up Woodlawn resident stated at a crowded community meeting that focused on a nearby migrant shelter located in the old converted Wadsworth elementary school.
“Who’s helping me?” another frustrated resident asked, her voice shaking with emotion. “I would ask you all to go out there, go out there in the middle of the night and see what goes on.”
The shelter is a magnet for loitering, late-night parties, littering, and prostitution, according to CBS News Chicago. At least one fight between residents and the migrants has already broken out.

The residents made clear they are out of patience with the progressive policies.
“Let me say this,” said one resident, “they got one more time to deal with it, because otherwise, the next time they deal with it, they’re going to deal with it from the streets.”
“We’re going to take over,” the man vowed. “Nobody’s going to be able to stop us from what we’re going to do to them.”
Alderman Ray Lopez’s ward includes the Gage Park shelter, where many migrants are “joyfully ignoring curfew.”
Lopez sent a letter to Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson in which he told him that his constituents have been witness to efforts to recruit new gang members, drug use, sex acts, and prostitution. Heroin, he said, according to Fox 32, is increasingly becoming a concern.
“We know this crisis is not ending anytime soon,” Lopez wrote. “We need to show that we are willing to address those issues that are negatively impacting local communities. We heard about it this week in Woodlawn, and we need to be able to nip it in the bud early.”
Meanwhile, at least three migrants are facing charges in three separate downtown cases, including one who was allegedly waving a knife at pedestrians, CWB Chicago reports.

On Sunday, Alejandro Jose Paipa Fernandez was arrested after passersby flagged down a Chicago police officer to report a man who was threatening pedestrians. According to the officer, Fernandez was brandishing a 12-inch knife.
The 25-year-old suspect — a resident of the Standard Club migrant shelter — was charged with misdemeanor unlawful use of a weapon and released.
Gabriel Munoz Marquez, 31, who calls the make-shift shelter at the Calumet (5th) District police station home, caught a felony retail theft charge after he brought a bag into Norstrom Rack and began filling it with $1,783 worth of sunglasses and a purse. He, too, was released on his own recognizance.

“Then there’s Jefferson Bozo Santiago, 23, another resident of the Standard Club shelter,” CWB reports. “He managed to get arrested twice this month for misdemeanor shoplifting.”
Twelve days after getting pinched on the 4th of July at Macy’s for allegedly lifting $260 worth of merchandise, Santiago was arrested at Neiman Marcus after he allegedly walked out with a $247 pair of sunglasses.
Bail was originally set at $3,000, but it was later reduced to a recognizance bond.
“In the interim, Santiago entered into a deferred prosecution agreement with prosecutors for the July 4 incident, according to court records,” CWB reported. “He is expected to complete 20 hours of community service.”
The outlet goes on to list a number of crimes allegedly committed by migrants since arriving in Chicago, including one Standard Club shelter resident who “was charged with stabbing another resident during an argument.”
