A series of frightening videos and pictures taken at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) show people claiming to be flight crew walking through the airport in full hazmat gear.
The group was reportedly headed to Xiamen Airlines en route to China and said they were wearing the personal protective equipment (PPE) due to COVID.
This is not the first time a group of people dressed like this has been seen traipsing through the LAX lines. Videos posted to Twitter show that this has been happening since at least 2021, with an uptick of content being shared in 2022.
Unreal how many Americans are still politicizing simple masks. China Air flight crews wear hazmat suits when walking through LAX. pic.twitter.com/5ZbZUmK2oP

As there has been no official explanation, people have been quick to throw around theories, ranging from disturbing to humorous:
Looks like this could be mainland Chinese aircrew!

Utterly dystopian and not a practice that would be endorsed by @IATA or even @ACIWorld as a standard protocol for air travel
