Conspiracies fly, Twitter gets UGLY as Pelosi updates roll in: ‘Far right has normalized use of violence’

Faster than you can say “never let a crisis go to waste,” suspicion and baseless accusations surrounding the Friday attack of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi, in the couple’s San Francisco home have swept across Twitter, with both sides of the political aisle pointing partisan fingers before any substantial facts about the shocking assault have been reported.

As BizPac Review reported, Paul Pelosi, 82, was “violently assaulted” by a hammer-wielding assailant who broke into the couple’s private residence early on Friday morning.

“Early this morning, an assailant broke into the Pelosi residence in San Francisco and violently assaulted Mr. Pelosi,” spokesperson Drew Hammill said in a press statement. “The assailant is in custody and the motivation for the attack is under investigation. Mr. Pelosi was taken to the hospital, where he is receiving excellent medical care and is expected to make a full recovery.”

“The Speaker and her family are grateful to the first responders and medical professionals involved, and request privacy at this time,” Hammill informed the media.

Nancy Pelosi was not at home when the attack occurred.

The news set Twitter on fire and, sans any supporting evidence, libs quickly began blaming conservatives.

“Pelosi’s 80+ year old husband attacked by a man wielding a hammer,” tweeted filmmaker Chip Franklin. “Sounds like the cowardly trump trolls.”

Laurence Tribe, a Harvard Law School professor, didn’t let things like “facts not in evidence” stop him from sounding off.

“The far right has normalized the use of violence even against the families of public officials with whom somebody might disagree,” he tweeted. “This absolutely must stop.”

It’s a rich take, considering the attacks in recent years on conservatives such as Steve Scalise, Rand Paul, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, New York gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin, and Cayler Ellingson, the teenager who was chased down and fatally struck by a driver because he was believed to be a “MAGA Republican.”

While the suspect in the assault has been taken into custody, few details have been released, fueling speculation from the right about the incident.

“They haven’t released the info on the suspect who attached Pelosi’s husband,” noted one user on Twitter. “If it was a MAGA hat wearer, we’d have known it as soon as in custody. So, hold your horses fake news.”

A report from the Associated Press cites two anonymous sources who claim, “The attack was not random; the assailant specifically targeted the home.”

Meanwhile, the New York Post cites a CNN report which claims the intruder shouted “Where is Nancy? Where is Nancy?” before attacking her husband.

While the AP did not comment on the suspect’s political ideology, it did throw gasoline on Twitter’s dumpster fire with its obviously biased reporting.

“While the circumstances of the attack are unclear, the attack raises questions about the safety of members of Congress and their families as threats to lawmakers are at an all-time high almost two years after the deadly Capitol insurrection,” the AP writes. “The attack also comes just 11 days ahead of midterm elections in which crime and public safety have emerged as top concerns among Americans.”

The timing of the attack is already raising eyebrows, and many on Twitter want to know how someone managed to make it past all the security measures taken to protect the woman who is third in the line of succession for the presidency.

“Something very suspect about this Jussie Pelosi story,” tweeted one user.

While Nancy Pelosi is protected by Capitol Police, her protective detail was with her in Washington when Paul Pelosi was attacked, according to the AP.

The suspect was handed over to San Francisco police, and the FBI and local police are investigating.
