CPAC power couple fire back at report they hired a priest to cleanse ‘satanic spirits’ from DC offices

American Conservative Union chairman Matt Schlapp is taking heat and attempting to set the record straight over a story that alleges he and his wife hired a priest for the main purpose of performing an exorcism in the nation’s capital.

Schlapp, who heads up CPAC, allegedly hired a Catholic priest to perform an exorcism at the annual political conference’s offices following the resignation of a number of disgruntled staffers unhappy with their pay.

That’s according to Daily Beast senior political reporter Roger Sollenberger, who said in an article this week that CPAC power couple Matt Schlapp and his wife, Mercedes “felt it was time for a new beginning.”

“As part of the reset, the Schlapps turned to a priest to evict satanic spirits from the D.C.-area offices, according to multiple people with knowledge of the exorcisms,” Sollenberger reported.

Evidently, the priest went all out during last year’s spiritual exercise to evict the demons.

“And so, on an afternoon in spring 2022, CPAC employees at their offices in Alexandria, Virginia — about eight miles from the fabled staircase featured in the 1973 horror classic The Exorcist — found themselves suddenly in the presence of a Catholic priest,” the reporter wrote. “The priest, sources said, sprinkled holy water around the CPAC premises and blessed all the staff, regardless of their faith. As part of the rite, according to these people, the priest placed a medallion above doors in the offices and explained that it would help ward off evil spirits.”

Given the outcome of the 2022 midterm elections, which saw an expected red wave crash into a blue wall, the Schlapps might be due a refund.

Either way, the power couple pushed back on the reporting but did not deny that a spiritual ritual took place.

“Just another day in the swamp WaPo was spying on a conf call today and the Daily Beast is running a story accusing us of being Roman Catholic and praying. Just a warning to the bad guys: Angels do carry swords and Beasts have much more significant problems w global warming,” Schlapp tweeted late Thursday.

Friday morning, he shared this statement: “@CPAC is being terrorized by a demon self-described as The Daily Beast. The good news is the leadership of CPAC knows how the epic battle against the Beast ends. I’d short the stock.”

Mrs. Schlapp responded by calling the Daily Beast “Satan’s publication to persecute Christians and their families.” In painting the conflict as a struggle between good and evil, she also clarified that the act was a “blessing,” not an exorcism.

“The Daily Beast, Satan’s publication, has defaced and mocked Jesus in their latest attack on our faith,” she tweeted. “These are religiously intolerant individuals. It is common practice for Christians and other people of faith to bless their offices and homes. The Daily Beast operative has no understanding of the difference between a blessing and an exorcism. I pray for our enemies including the Daily Beast operatives and pray for their conversions of heart. This article is a blessing when you know that @CPAC stands on the side of God and focuses on defeating evil.”
