A Colombian national who pleaded guilty in May to stealing the identity of a U.S. voter has been sentenced to three years in federal prison.
According to the Department of Justice (DOJ), Colombian national Carlos Felipe Jaramillo-Grajales “used the name, date of birth, and Social Security number of a U.S. citizen to apply for and obtain a passport.”
He later used the same information to apply for and obtain a Florida driver’s license and to even register to vote.
“[H]e subsequently voted in several elections,” the DOJ notes.

“This criminal illegal alien spent years exploiting a stolen identity of a United States citizen to obtain government documents, claim benefits, and unlawfully participate in the electoral process,” Homeland Security Investigations Jacksonville Assistant Special Agent in Charge Tim Hemker said in a statement.
“This conviction demonstrates that identity theft, immigration fraud, and fraud against the integrity of United States government systems will be investigated thoroughly and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. HSI remains committed to protecting victims, safeguarding public institutions, and ensuring that those who abuse our immigration and identification systems are held accountable,” he added.
Under his false name and identity as a citizen, Jaramillo-Grajales also married a woman who immigrated here in September of 2023 on a visitor’s visa, thus making her eligible for naturalization.
“After her naturalization in August 2017, they divorced in January 2020 and he returned to Colombia under his false name,” according to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“His ex-wife then flew to Colombia and filed an application for a fiancé visa for him under his real name,” ICE reported. “After this visa was approved, Jaramillo-Grajales flew back to the United States under his real name, remarried his ex-wife in June 2025, and applied for permanent residence based on his marriage to a U.S. citizen.”
His sentencing last Friday came almost exactly a month after Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin sent a letter to the secretaries of state of California, New Jersey, Nevada, and Pennsylvania — all blue states — warning them about the tens of thousands of non-citizens on their voter rolls.
“Election security is national security,” Mullin wrote. “As President Trump announced last night, DHS has identified over 250,000 potential non-citizens illegally registered to vote in just 4 U.S. states. Only Americans should be electing American leaders.”
A preliminary @DHSgov review found over 250,000 non-citizens registered to vote in four states: California, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Nevada.
This shouldn’t be a red or blue state issue: ONLY Americans should elect American leaders.

Mullin’s team found 190,832 non-citizens registered to vote in California, 35,152 non-citizens registered to vote in New Jersey, 15,903 non-citizens registered to vote in Nevada, and 14,576 non-citizens registered to vote in Pennsylvania.
Jaramillo-Grajales’ arrest and conviction is one of many in recent days.
In July, Slovakian illegal alien Marian Charitun was arrested for illegally voting in the 2022 election. That same month, Australian illegal alien Denise Nataly Migliore was arrested for voting in the 2022 and 2024 elections.
In May, the DOJ announced charges against four illegal aliens in New Jersey who’d “voted in federal elections and made false statements while applying for U.S. citizenship.”
“In April, Jose Ceballos, an alien from Mexico, pleaded guilty to THREE counts of disorderly election conduct after illegally voting multiple times and falsely claiming to be a U.S. citizen in Kansas,” according to ICE.
A month earlier, agents arrested Mahady Sacko, an illegal alien from Mauritania who’d been illegally voting since 2008.
All this also comes a month after DHS published new guidelines for the Homeland Security Grant Program requiring all grant recipients to better secure their voting systems and conduct manual post-election audits.
“Within 120 days of accepting the grant award, states must use the reliable and free U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) system to verify the citizenship status of everyone listed in the state voter registration database,” the requirements read.
