Some on the left have begun using the tragic suicide of an 11-year-old Hispanic girl to attack President Donald Trump and his administration.
The Texas girl, Gainesville Intermediate School sixth-grader Jocelynn Rojo Carranza, committed suicide after her classmates repeatedly threatened to sic immigration authorities on her family, who according to reports immigrated to the U.S. legally.
“Classmates allegedly harassed the young girl by telling her she would be left alone without her family once they were deported,” according to The Independent. “But the alleged abuse spiraled, and despite reportedly informing school officials on numerous occasions, no action was taken to stop it.”
Carranza experienced the bullying for months. Moreover, her school was reportedly aware of the bullying but did nothing about it except assign her a school counselor.

Flash forward to Feb. 3rd, when the young girl’s mother, Marbella, received a call letting her know that her daughter had attempted suicide and was now in an intensive care unit in Dallas, according to Newsweek.
The girl’s father, Ernesto Alonso Rojo, subsequently opened a GoFundMe and asked the public to pray for his daughter.
“Please all help me and my daughter Jocelynn Rojo,” he wrote. “She needs to come back home; she is in an emergency children’s hospital. Any help, God blesses you back. Thank you very much to all praying. Dios los bendiga y le mande salud a mi niña!!!”
Sadly, Carranza passed away five days later on Feb. 8th.
“I waited a whole week for a miracle that my daughter would be well, but unfortunately nothing could be done,” Marbella told Univision after her daughter’s death. “My daughter will always live for me, and I will always love her.”
Days later, Carranza’s tragic death is now being exploited to unjustly attack Trump and his administration over their immigration crackdown.
“The sixth-grader’s death comes amid an aggressive push by the Trump administration to deport people who are in the United States illegally,” Mediaite reported.
“Her death comes amid President Donald Trump’s ordering for the ‘largest deportation operation in American history,’ prompting agents with ICE and other federal authorities to launch targeted raids on approximately 12 million undocumented immigrants nationwide,” The Independent added.

This is so heartbreaking and so infuriating! We know who at the top is responsible for anti-immigrant discourse and policies, of course! But what was happening at the school? How did it get to this? @gainesvilleisd

Trump is responsible for her death. If not for his hate campaign, she would still be alive. And I’m afraid she won’t be the last.
Her bullying classmates need to be severely punished too. This is horrible.— Gryn ✌ (@gryn_a) February 19, 2025
Pushback against the “blame Trump” narrative is just as passionate.
And, politically speaking the two parties before Trump that failed to secure our borders will continue to get a free pass as long as Trump is around to scapegoat.
“Since some want to blame Trump for this let me just say this is in no way his fault, the problem is with bullying and what is being modeled at home,” one social media user wrote. “This can come from either political party so don’t make this about Trump or point fingers in his direction.”
“Just stop,” another social media user wrote. “Politicizing a youth suicide to blame Trump is really unconscionable. You have no shame.”
