DeSantis on media treatment of his wife: ‘She’d be on every fashion magazine if she were a Democrat’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, now a 2024 presidential candidate, is positive that the media would be treating his wife far better if they were Democrats.

“If she were a Democrat, she’d be on every fashion magazine … they would be making her to be the biggest deal,” he said Wednesday on conservative radio show host Mark Levin’s syndicated program.

“But because we’re conservative, we know that that’s not what happens. In reality, it will be the opposite, where they try to really attack,” he added.

DeSantis continued by accusing the leftist media of attacking his wife, Casey, because “she is an incredibly effective first lady.”

“She’s somebody that people look up to. Not just women, although many of the women in Florida who have gone through breast cancer look at her as a role model for how she handled it,” he said.

“She’s made huge improvements to communities in Florida by helping underprivileged people. And she believes in the values of the country and she can articulate that in a way that people really get excited about,” he added.

He also referred to Casey, his wife, as his “best friend.”

“She’s a great wife, a great mother. But I’ll tell you when I’m out there on the campaign trail, there is nobody I would rather have by my side than Casey DeSantis. And the corrupt media knows that. They know she’s good. So they’re going to try to fabricate stories about her,” he said.

The governor concluded his remarks by maintaining that “our voters see through this” and know “the only reason they’re going after her is because she’s effective.”

“They know when they’re doing the anonymous sources that it’s all fabricated BS. And so we take it in stride, we know this is just something that happens when you get into these things,” he said.

The remarks came about a week after Politico published a hypocritical hit piece about the governor’s wife. The piece was hypocritical because it compared Casey to Lady Macbeth — something the left-wing outlet had previously slammed Republicans for doing to Democrat women.

Former first lady Melania Trump, the wife of former President Donald Trump, used to suffer the same indignities. Similarly, Trump used to complain about it just like DeSantis.

In late 2020, for example, he retweeted a Breitbart News tweet about how “the elitist snobs in the fashion press have kept the most elegant First Lady in American history off the covers of their magazines for 4 consecutive years.”

The truth, as reported at the time, was that the media had been shafting all conservative women, including then-White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, then-presidential advisor Ivanka Trump, and Republican National Committee chair Ronna McDaniel, among others.

Any woman remotely affiliated with the president was either ignored, disparaged or both. Conversely, the females linked to then-President-elect Joe Biden were treated like saints. For instance, when Biden’s team announced that his communications team would be led entirely by women, the media blew up with excitement:

But in praising the Biden administration, the media forgot or intentionally ignored the fact that Trump’s White House communications team was brimming with women: Kayleigh McEnany, Alyssa Farah, Roma Daravi, Sarah Matthews, Stephanie Grisham, Kara Brooks, Katie Miller, etc.

It’s not just the media who played games. So did fashionistas like Anna Wintour, who suggested to CNN in 2019 that only women like disgraced porn star Stormy Daniels, then-Democrat vice-presidential nominee Kamala Harris, and former first lady Michelle Obama deserved to be honored in her magazines.

“If you’re talking about the first lady [Michelle Obama] or Senator [Kamala] Harris, obviously these are women that we feel are icons and inspiring to women from a global perspective,” she said in a CNN interview last year.

“I also feel even more strongly now that this is not a time to try — and I think one has to be fair, one has to look at all sides — but I don’t think it’s a moment not to take a stand. I think you can’t be everything to everybody and I think it’s a time that we live in a world, as you would well know, of fake news…[and] those of us that work at Conde Nast believe that you have to stand up for what you believe in and you have to take a point of view.”

In other words, she felt compelled to stand up to Trump by ignoring his wife, despite Melania being a former model.
