DHS says snack purchases soar during Delaney Hall hunger strike ‘HOAX’

Contrasting claims of Democratic politicians, the Department of Homeland Security’s commissary report appeared to debunk the detainee hunger strike story.

Ever the narrative-builders, the left’s ongoing defense of illegal aliens continued to find the usual suspects protesting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Delaney Hall detention facility in Newark, New Jersey, in particular.

Amid weeks of lawlessness and an imposed curfew outside the facility and a supposed detainee hunger strike within, DHS batted down the claim of underfed illegals by showing commissary sales had nearly tripled despite a decrease in the population.

Figures from the detention facility compared the March 26 report to that of June 1, where the population had gone down from 724 to 621, amounting to a 14% decrease. At the same time, the weekly commissary sales had soared from $11,498 up to more than $30,000.

“The hunger strike HOAX was actually just Delaney Hall detainees trading nutritious meals for Honey Buns and Hot Cheetos,” said DHS deputy press secretary Lauren Bis. “It’s time for sanctuary politicians to drop the political theater and work with us to get criminal illegal aliens OUT of our communities.”

The data backed up testimony from DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin who called out Democrats who chose Memorial Day to show solidarity with illegal alien detainees who, he detailed, included “rapists, child predators, murderers, drug dealers … They say it’s because they’re on a hunger strike, when it’s only a handful of individuals who refused to eat because they want their ethnic right food.”

“Well, they can go back to their country and get whatever food they want,” said Mullin. “The fact is, we’re giving them the calories they want, this isn’t Holiday Inn.”

While detainees appeared to prefer snacks like Oatmeal Creme Pies, Hot Pickles, and Cajun Shrimp Ramen, DHS shared the recent menu covering breakfasts, lunch and dinner with pancakes, fajitas, macaroni and cheese, and deli meats in addition to the evidently preferred offerings from the commissary.

Among the politicians who’d toured the detention facility, New York Rep. Jerry Nadler (D) had alleged “food is very sparse” and detainees “very often, they eat maggots in the food.”

However, New Jersey Rep. Herb Conaway, one of Nadler’s own Democratic peers, had himself debunked that claim after touring the facility with New Jersey Rep. Donald Norcross (D) and asserting he did not witness “major concerns.”

Likewise, DHS pushed back on claims and countered with the condition of New Jersey’s state prison system, where American citizens under yet another Democratic administration didn’t appear to merit the same concern as illegal aliens.

“REMINDER: on May 28, the state of New Jersey’s health inspectors went to Delaney Hall and they didn’t find one single violation,” DHS posted to X. “Compare this to New Jersey’s own ‘DEPLORABLE’ state prison system, where a man was BEATEN to death in his own cell and guards didn’t check on him for TWO DAYS.”

The account shared a report from The Independent and added, “Don’t take our word for it, see the horrific story for yourself.”
