Underhanded actions from the House of Mouse were not idly met and as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) sought an investigation, Disney CEO Bob Iger leveled a new political attack.

The unrelenting effort by America’s Governor to both restore constitutional order and undo the damage wrought by the culture war in the Sunshine State escalated this week after Disney was found trying to skirt the governing authority of the state. Iger, acting as the poster boy for crony capitalism, embodied the spirit of leftists and RINOs alike Monday when he charged DeSantis’ latest moves were “anti-Florida.”
Speaking at the annual Disney shareholders’ meeting, the CEO, who had been called off the bench to right the company’s flailing ship, leveled, “The governor got very angry about the position Disney took, and it seems like he’s decided to retaliate against us, including the naming of a new board to oversee the property and the business.”
“In effect, it seems, to punish a company for its exercise of a constitutional right. And that just seems really wrong to me,” he went on, touting a planned multibillion-dollar expansion. “Any action that thwarts those efforts simply to retaliate for a position the company took, sounds not just anti-business, but it sounds anti-Florida.”
As previously reported, DeSantis had pushed to remove Disney’s self-governing powers established in 1967 with the creation of the Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID) and, after the bill was signed into law, the board’s attempt to maintain control was revealed in a clause dubbed the “Royal loophole” that asserted authority until “21 years after the death of the last survivor of the descendants of King Charles III, king of England living as of the date of this declaration.”
The governor foreshadowed, “You ain’t seen nothing yet,” and, true to form, delivered on Monday.

In a letter sent to Florida’s Chief Inspector General Melinda Miguel, DeSantis drew attention to Disney’s attempt to “usurp the authority of the [Central Florida Tourism Oversight District] board” which replaced RCID.
“These collusive and self-dealing arrangements aim to nullify the recently passed legislation, undercut Florida’s legislative process, and defy the will of Floridians,” he wrote, calling out the actual “anti-Florida” behavior. “In addition, based on initial observations of counsel, the RCID board’s actions appear to suffer from serious legal infirmities, including, among other things, inadequate notice, lack of consideration, improper delegation of authority, and ethical violations, such as conflicts of interest and self-dealing.”

As such, DeSantis requested the IG work with law enforcement to ensure RCID adhered to “criminal laws and ethics requirements” and investigate the communications between the board and Walt Disney World employees to that end in addition to determining if there were financial benefits for Disney as a result.
