Executive for meat alternative co. Beyond Meat charged with biting a man’s nose, ripping flesh off

In what proved to be an awkward occurrence, an executive for a company pushing a vegan alternative to meat was arrested over the weekend — for allegedly biting a man’s nose.

Doug Ramsey, the chief operating officer for Beyond Meat, a company that makes imitation beef, chicken sausage and other products from plants, was involved in a fracas with another man in a parking garage near Razorback Stadium following a University of Arkansas football game.

Police were dispatched to “a disturbance that had previously occurred in the Stadium Drive Parking Garage,” KNWA-TV reported, with the attending officer finding “two males with bloody faces” at the scene.

It appears the two got into a scuffle when the other man tried to inch in front of Ramsey, who was having none of it.

More from the CBS affiliate:

The officer spoke with both parties and a witness before determining Ramsey had allegedly been in the traffic lane of the structure, attempting to leave, when a Subaru “inched his way” in front of Ramsey’s Bronco, making contact with the front passenger side tire. Ramsey allegedly got out of his vehicle and “punched through the back windshield of the Subaru.”

The owner of the Subaru then allegedly got out and stated Ramsey “pulled him in close and started punching his body.” According to the report, Ramsey also “bit the owner’s nose, ripping the flesh on the tip of the nose.”

Ramsey, 53, also “threaten[ed] to kill” the owner of the Subaru, according to witnesses.

The executive was arrested on September 17 and charged with terroristic threatening and third-degree battery, but that was just the beginning of a downward turn for Beyond Meat.

On Monday, the company suffered its worst day on the trading market since it went public in 2019, according to Barron’s.

After peaking at $234.90 per share in July 2019, Beyond Meat’s shares were trading at $17.06 at the closing bell, with Barron’s noting that “inflation has led consumers’ to shun the higher-priced products.”
