Feds launch new criminal probe into ‘Tish’ James: report

Letitia James may not be out of the woods yet, with federal prosecutors reportedly opening up a new probe into the New York attorney general involving financial transactions with her hairdresser.

The feds are “opening a new front in their pursuit of one of President Trump’s perceived enemies,” The New York Times reported on Thursday, citing the usual anonymous sources described as “people with knowledge of the matter.”

According to the paper, prosecutors are investigating the lawfare queen over the transactions with Iyesata Marsh, who has known James for years and was indicted in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana last month, being charged with “bank fraud and aggravated identity theft in connection with the purchase of a Land Rover about three years ago.”

The Times cited court documents accusing Marsh and her nephew of “using the identity and personal information of an unidentified woman in Ohio to buy the vehicle.”

According to the NYT,  “the investigation is still in its early stages, but prosecutors are interested in talking to Ms. Marsh about past financial transactions involving Ms. James or her campaign, according to people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the inquiry.”

It is unclear how serious the probe is, with the paper reporting that there “is no indication that Ms. Marsh, who has yet to enter a plea in her case, is cooperating. A lawyer representing her, Keith Whiddon, declined to comment. A spokeswoman from the U.S. attorney’s office in the Western District of Louisiana declined to comment.”

Still, the alleged investigation of James gives Democrats and their allies more ammunition to push their narrative that President Donald J. Trump is weaponizing the federal legal apparatus against his political foes, a gold-plated bit of hypocrisy considering how “Tish” twisted the law into a pretzel to secure a conviction against him in her controversial civil fraud case.

“The new investigation adds to the administration’s efforts to pursue Ms. James, reflecting President Trump’s explicit desire to seek revenge against the New York attorney general. Ms. James is one of his foremost nemeses, having accused him in a lawsuit of inflating his net worth by billions,” the Times claimed.

James was recently spared from prosecution when a federal judge torpedoed the Justice Department’s mortgage fraud case against her on a technicality, ruling that interim U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan was unlawfully appointed.

Abbe D. Lowell, James’ high-powered attorney who also represented Hunter Biden, decried the probe as an attempt “to shake down people based on their association with Ms. James.”

“Like their earlier attempts, this attack on Ms. James is doomed to fail,” Lowell said in a statement, according to the Times. “The desperation of those working for Trump is palpable and makes indelible the stain already put on this Justice Department.”
