Garland vows to prosecute ‘every person criminally responsible’ for J6, as MTG reports ongoing vandalism at Capitol

Attorney General Merrick Garland vows that even a former president will be prosecuted for the events surrounding January 6 should he be found “criminally responsible.”

Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Garland called the Jan. 6 probe the Department of Justice’s “most important” investigation ever and swore that “every person who is criminally responsible” for the riot at the Capitol will be held accountable.

“This is the most wide-ranging investigation and the most important investigation that the Justice Department has ever entered into,” Garland stated. “And we have done so because this represented, this effort to upend a legitimate election, transferring power from one administration to another, cuts at the fundamental of American democracy.”

“We have to get this right,” Garland said without a hint of irony. “And for people who are concerned, as I think every American should be, about protecting democracy, we have to do two things. We have to hold accountable every person who is criminally responsible for trying to overturn a legitimate election. And we must do it in a way filled with integrity and professionalism.”

At least one unidentified reporter suggested the Biden administration’s DOJ “could be accused of playing politics” if it charges former President Donald Trump.

“We are entering a zone here, where if there are charges brought against a former president related to January 6, DOJ could be accused of playing politics,” the reporter said. “How is the department? How are you wearing that?”

“Also,” the reporter continued, “do you think there is a constitutional question involved here about whether you charge the former president for actions allegedly taken during his term?”

Garland, who has for some time now been a source of liberal tears for his failure to indict Trump,  doubled down.

“Okay, look,” he said, “no person is above the law in this country. Nothing stops us.”

“Even a former president?” the reporter asked.

Garland then tripled down.

“You know, I don’t know how to say that again,” the exasperated AG said. “No person is above the law in this country. I can’t say it any more clearly than that. There is nothing in the principles of prosecution and any other factors which prevent us from investigating anyone, anyone who is criminally responsible for or for an attempt to undo a democratic election.”

It’s an interesting way to phrase his position. It almost sounds as if he decides who is “criminally responsible” for a presupposed crime before he investigates them.

Meanwhile, it would seem that no one is above the law — unless they are committing a crime against a member of the GOP.

In a series of videos posted to Twitter, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene shared that her property at Capitol Hill has been repeatedly vandalized by Democrats who don’t like what she has to say — first by people who entered the Capitol with the express intent of harassing her and other conservative Congressmembers and then, she claims, by her fellow lawmakers.

A sign which reads, “There are two genders” was allegedly vandalized, and another showing evidence of the first sign being vandalized was ripped down from the wall outside her office.

“The Department of Justice isn’t going to prosecute them,” she said, adding that it was the same staff that let Steven Colbert’s team in to run amuck in the Capitol Building.

In a follow-up tweet, Greene revealed that the missing sign had been located, folded up, in the men’s restroom.

“Lawlessness in Congress, everyone,” she said. “The Department of Justice is completely terrible. They don’t prosecute crime.”
