GOP: Asheville, NC a ‘catastrophe’ and Biden’s at the beach, Kamala ‘too busy to notice’

The devastation wrought by Hurricane Helene had many asking where the Biden-Harris administration was with their records of being “too busy to notice” preceding them.

A train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, wildfires in Maui, Hawaii and the countless towns wracked by the border crisis were just a sample of the disasters under President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris that hardly appeared to reach the top of their respective lists of priorities.

Now, as at least 65 people were confirmed dead in North Carolina alone, hundreds of thousands without power, homes and livelihoods literally washed away by the storm and with more rain and the potential for flash flooding in the forecast, statements didn’t cover for the fact that Biden had returned to his beach and Harris had her handout as she continued bucking for a promotion.

Sharing reporting from NBC News on the ground in Asheville, North Carolina where residents were lined up at one of the few locations with working internet connection to let loved ones know they were okay while some had taken to using kayaks to get around, the Republican National Committee posted of the catastrophe, “Biden is at the beach and Kamala is too busy with her San Francisco fundraisers to notice.”

Additional looks at the devastation chided the administration for the limited response to tragedies like the one that rocked the town of Lahaina, Maui in 2023 where families were given $700 checks from the government as tens of billions of taxpayers dollars continued to be funneled overseas.

That reality prompted some to suggest, “Asheville NC needs to raise the Ukrainian Flag, unlimited resources will be sent.”

Even as Helene had already made landfall, Biden hadn’t wavered from his weekend plans to visit his home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware after a quick stop in Scranton, Pennsylvania, imposing flight restrictions throughout the area and causing traffic delays as reported by the Cape Gazette.

Unlike Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) who was a fixture at the command center, on the ground in impacted communities and redirecting resources to aid North Carolina, even foregoing his own 15th wedding anniversary to fulfill his duties as a public servant, the president and vice president released statements on their social media accounts.

The president’s account read Saturday, “The devastation we’re witnessing in Hurricane Helene’s wake has been overwhelming. Jill and I continue to pray for all of those who have lost loved ones and for everyone impacted by this storm.”

Making note of preparations leading up to the storm and emergency declarations, the president added, “Our focus is on life-saving and life-sustaining response efforts in the Southeast — and I continue to be briefed by my team which is coordinating recovery efforts with state and local officials.”

Shortly thereafter, Harris’ account offered, “President Biden and I continue to work with local leaders in the southeast to provide support as they face the impacts of Hurricane Helene and begin to recover. More than 1,500 federal personnel have been deployed, including power restoration and search and rescue teams. Listen to local officials and stay safe. We are with you every step of the way.”
