GOP urges DOJ to delay Hunter Biden indictment until after press briefing since charges are a ‘drop in the bucket’

The extent of President Joe Biden’s family’s alleged influence-peddling was teased Sunday by Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) as he urged the Justice Department to delay a potentially imminent indictment of Hunter Biden that would amount to a “drop in the bucket.”

The House Oversight and Accountability Committee chair joined Fox News host Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures” to preview a press conference scheduled for Wednesday. With the details expected to reveal how the president and eight members of his family were getting paid by the Chinese Communist Party during Biden’s time as vice president to lobby in the CCP’s interest, Comer was certain a looming indictment for Hunter from the DOJ would be a “slap on the wrist” in comparison.

After recapping that he and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) had subpoenaed the FBI for a document believed to implicate the president in the alleged pay-for-play scheme, the host asked, “What if they don’t release the document by May 10? What if they decide to indict Hunter Biden for having a gun illegally before your press conference?”

“My message to the Department of Justice is very loud and clear. Do not indict Hunter Biden before Wednesday,” the committee chair began, “when you have the opportunity to see the evidence that the House Oversight Committee will produce with respect to the web of LLCs, with respect to the number of adversarial countries that this family influence peddled in.”

“This is not just about the president’s son. This is about the entire Biden family, including the president of the United States,” Comer asserted. “So we believe there are a whole lot of accounts that the IRS and the DOJ don’t know about because we don’t believe they’ve done a whole lot of digging in this, and we have.”

Rattling off the types of sources used to come to these conclusions, including whistleblowers like the one who tipped him off to subpoena the FBI, the congressman asserted the Justice Department’s investigation had not been near as thorough.

“By all accounts from the media reports that we’re getting, what they’re looking at charging Hunter Biden on is a slap on the wrist. It’s a drop in the bucket. So, Wednesday will be a very big day for the American people in getting the facts presented to them so that they can know the truth,” he said, “and then the Department of Justice can finally do what they should have done years ago.”

When pressed on what that was, Comer said, “Well, obviously, the president’s son’s committed many crimes, many crimes,” as he listed “potential money laundering,” being an “unregistered foreign agent,” and “possible racketeering. I mean, the list goes on and on and on.”

Meanwhile, columnist Miranda Devine suggested Sunday that the president could be establishing a narrative to justify a future pardon of his son. “I think the end game is that he’s setting up… framing this sympathy card so that when it comes time, perhaps in his lame duck period, that he will pardon Hunter and Americans will forgive him because they will say, well, Hunter was a drug addict and Joe just loves his family, and he’s been through enough tragedy in his life. Leave him alone.”
