A governor’s overreach panned as “fascist” and “tyrannical,” made for some Second Amendment bedfellows strange enough to warrant a supernatural temperature check.
Under the umbrella of “public health emergency” New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) demonstrated what author C.S. Lewis had meant when he argued in favor of robber barons over subjugation to “omnipotent moral busybodies.” While her unilateral attempt to suspend the right to carry a firearm was expectedly pummeled by Republicans, even gun grabbers like California Rep. Ted Lieu (D) and activist David Hogg were left crying foul.
“I support gun safety laws. However, this order from the Governor of New Mexico violates the U.S. Constitution,” the congressman posted Saturday. “No state in the union can suspend the federal Constitution. There is no such thing as a public health emergency exception to the U.S. Constitution.”
Likewise, Hogg, whose entire public persona has been built around eroding the Second Amendment, took a pass on Grisham’s ham-fisted move. “I support gun safety but there is no such thing as a state public health emergency exception to the U.S. Constitution.”
Though unifying against the governor likely fell short of a red-pill moment for either leftist, the straightforward objections raised the question, “Holy sh*t is hell freezing over?”

As had been reported, the governor’s order declared in part, “no person, other than a law enforcement officer or licensed security officer, shall possess a firearm…either openly or concealed, within cities or counties averaging 1,000 or more violent crimes per 100,000 residents per year since 2021.”
The tyrannical test balloon looked to be an immediate bust as one person suggested the backlash from the likes of Lieu and Hogg meant, “They just got the ‘we went too far so everyone say the opposite of New Mexico before everyone revolts’ memo. This is just evidence they all work in unison, cuz they’re all saying it, almost word for word.”

However, others remained stuck on the out-of-character takes from the left that brought others questions on reality, such as “Did I die in my sleep?… Am I dreaming?” Are parallel universes really a thing and “we’ve officially changed timelines,” or maybe pigs are in fact now skyworthy?
Did you just… have a good take on a gun issue?
Did I die in my sleep? I woke up, fed the cats, logged in here, then I wondered if I’m actually a ghost. Can anyone read this? Am I dreaming?

Whatever the impetus behind the originalist take on the Constitution, Christina Pushaw, the rapid response director for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ presidential election campaign, saw the apparent epiphany as a teachable moment for the left to connect the dots on other acts committed against the rights of U.S. citizens.
“Right! ‘There is no such thing as a state public health emergency exception to the U.S. Constitution.’ Or a federal public health emergency exception to the U.S. Constitution,” she posted on X. “Or a local public health emergency exception to the U.S. Constitution…Dems + GOP should agree on this.”
